Full time faculty members at KCAD teach 18 semester credit hours per academic year, typically 3 courses each fall and spring semester. As a KCAD faculty member, you will engage in three kinds of professional development: continuous improvement in teaching effectiveness, creative and/or scholarly contribution within your discipline, and a college service commitment that includes committee work and community engagement for the advancement of KCAD’s mission. You will actively advise students regarding their academic plan and progress as well as their co-curricular and post-graduation opportunities. The program prepares students for careers in the fashion industry through key studio classes integrating concept development, design, materials, garment construction, pattern-making, draping, drawing, digital technologies and research/development. Program includes fashion shows, community collaborations, a fashion lab, and support courses in General Education and Art History add broader context to the program; with an optional senior year experience at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC. Teaching assignments will include but are not limited to: design process for fashion and function, construction, patternmaking, draping, and textiles, as framed by the program outline. The faculty member should form a bridge between the students' academic/studio learning and the profession; thus, applicants should demonstrate significant experience in apparel design/development and a continuing, active connection to the fashion design industry. Future instruction may include courses with a study away component. Courses are to be taught in person on KCAD’s campus in Grand Rapids, MI. KCAD is seeking a full-time faculty for Foundations. The First Year Experience / Foundations program offers hands-on, integrative, studio-based courses utilizing both analog and digital formats. The program is currently seeking candidates to teach foundation courses. This position will start in August, 2025. Courses are to be taught in person on KCAD’s campus in Grand Rapids, MI. The Photography Program challenges students to express ideas, investigate conditions, and communicate specifically and effectively with lens-based imagery. A course of study emphasizing the history, technique, production and critique of photography prepares graduates for a wide variety of opportunities in photography including the fine arts, advertising, commercial, documentary work, and graduate studies. Teaching assignments within the BFA Photography Program include a full range of technical, aesthetic, and theoretical subjects from beginning camera and darkroom usage, lighting and digital applications, to the senior thesis project. Teaching assignments may include courses outside of the Photography program. Courses are to be taught in person on KCAD’s campus in Grand Rapids, MI. The candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. Required: MFA in Photography (or) MFA in Studio Art. Minimum of two years of university or college-level teaching experience beyond teaching assistantships. The Architecture and Facility Management Department seeks applications for a part-time, temporary faculty position. Responsibilities involve teaching one or more courses in the following degree programs: AAS in Architectural Technology or BS in Architecture and Sustainability. In addition to the more common topics associated with the degree programs, experience in architectural design, construction detailing and documents utilizing AutoCAD and Revit, digital architectural presentation utilizing software such as Revit, Formit, Autodesk 3DS Max, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, will be considered. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. The anticipated start date of this position is January 2025 at the earliest and August 2025 at the latest. The Architecture and Facility Management Department invites applicants for a 9-month tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will be instrumental in implementing a new Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree, which is being submitted to the University community for consideration this fall. The successful applicant will hold a graduate degree in architecture or a closely related field and will have applicable work experience in architectural practice. Preference will be given to candidates with prior teaching experience. In addition to a background in practice, applicants should have a working knowledge of and commitment to sustainable design and sustainable systems. Preference will be given to candidates who show an interest in and an aptitude for marketing an academic program through online advertising campaigns, social media, high school and community college visits, summer camps, or other appropriate channels. Applicants with specific expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: teaching first-year design and/or visualization; Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator; Rhino and/or Revit; architectural detailing, construction materials, and/or advanced building systems. The Department is seeking a qualified individual to teach a selection of undergraduate courses in sales and marketing. The ideal candidate should be able to teach variety of sales related classes (e.g., Professional Selling, Sales Management, Advanced Selling, and Supply Chain Management) as well as other marketing classes such as Principles of Marketing, Marketing Data Analysis, Sports Marketing, and Digital Marketing. Teaching graduate courses in sales might also be required. The candidate will participate in development and improvement of curriculum and curriculum delivery, assessment of student learning, service work including student engagement activities and committees, and engage in scholarly activities and professional development aligned with current and emergent programmatic needs. Faculty members have professional responsibilities which include advising students, participation in committees, keeping regular posted office hours, and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance. Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus and/or online. The anticipated start date of this position is August of 2025 at the earliest and January of 2026 at the latest.
