In an era of rapid data center growth and volatile energy shifts, we don’t just watch the market—we map its future. As our key Energy Market Analyst, you will be the primary custodian of the models that drive our most critical mid- and long-term investment decisions. You won't just run simulations; you will build the "brain" that navigates the complexities of ERCOT, turning billions of data points into actionable strategies that help build the optimal portfolio of generation assets. You aren’t just a "user" of software. You will design, program, and refine models using Python or UPLAN/PLEXOS to solve the hardest questions in nodal pricing, congestion, and resource valuation. Your forecasts aren't buried in reports; they are presented directly to senior leadership to inform multi-million dollar deals and long-term asset optimization. You tackle the "unsolved" problems of the grid, from the valuation of long-duration storage to the impact of extreme weather events. Our ideal candidate would have a strong track record of building production-cost models or nodal power flow models, and obtain the ability to translate 'The Greeks' and shadow prices into a clear, compelling narrative for both technical teams and commercial stakeholders. LCRA is committed to fostering professional development for its employees and offers a hybrid work environment with a minimum of two days in the office per week.
You will be trusted to:
- Understand and use cost production models such as UPLAN or PLEXOS to simulate the ERCOT nodal market for optimal power flow studies. - Build long-term and short-term ERCOT market scenarios to support asset valuation, and long term market analysis. - Provide advanced electrical engineering analysis and market insights for LCRA’s generation and load portfolio. - Conduct complex economic studies to evaluate operational strategies, market rules, and transmission growth impacts. - Prepare fundamental modeling and analysis of industry forecasts in support of the wholesale electric market business operations. - Provide direct planning and analytical support for the development of electric power supply strategies, evaluation and analysis of generation assets and power purchase and sale contracts.
You qualify with:
- Nine or more years’ experience in data science, statistics, economics, engineering, energy market simulation or other relevant experience. - A degree(s) in data science, data engineering, statistics, economics, engineering, mathematics or a relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
You are a great fit with:
- Experience with UPLAN, PLEXOS or a similar cost production-based model - Bachelor’s or higher degree in engineering, data science, data engineering, statistics, economics, mathematics or relevant field - Proficient in writing queries to extract, manipulate, and analyze data from databases - Experience with other analytical and visualization tools such as Python, SQL, SAS, Snowflake, GitHub, Excel, Power Query, VBA, Power BI, DAX - Strong ‘Big Data’ handling and management skills - Strong quantitative and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy - Strong internal and external relationship skills - Strong written and verbal communication skills
You gain:
- Competitive salary & medical, dental, vision and legal insurance
- Paid time off, including time for vacation, sick and family care leave
- 401(k) match up to 8% that includes a student loan 401(k) contribution program option
- Life and disability insurance
- Wellness program including wellness incentive
- Extensive learning & development programs
And more - all to create a compelling and rewarding work environment.
