Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Non-clinical duties Maintain patient electronic medical record by sorting and placing acquired information in patient electronic chart. Retrieve and deliver patient medical record materials including, faxes received, loose filing, etc. Enter data and work within the clinical electronic medical records. Greet and direct patients, staff and visitors. Answer phones, take messages and direct calls as needed. Register patients, schedule appointments, and make changes on any upcoming appointments. Obtain pre-authorizations as mandated by insurance companies. Provide patient education on various procedures and/or treatments. Inform patients of non-covered items or services and obtain ABN if needed. Conduct phone referrals for providers, obtaining the appropriate authorization numbers. Assist with preparation of physician clinic and call schedules. Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned. This may include sorting and distributing mail throughout the department, completing charge tickets, performing routine data entry, coordinating laundry duties, inventory control and ordering, and performing general receptionist duties.
Clinical duties Maintain clinic equipment and instruments. Assist providers during treatments, examination, and minor surgery. Appropriately and accurately assess patients and document clinical information in the electronic record. This includes but is not limited to vital signs, phone messages, chart notes, patient communication, chief complaints, allergies, medications, and patient histories. Instruct patients and students in various procedures. Complete all necessary order forms, including lab orders and x-ray orders. Contact patients who need follow-up care/appointments. Review patient records prior to visit to ensure lab information, necessary reports, and dictation are all included in the record for physician review. Participate in and successfully complete all University required training, including but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct, BLS, Mandatory Reporting, Blood borne Pathogens, etc. Administer lab tests and medications/vaccines as ordered by provider. Assist with emergency care of patients as needed.
