Career Development Center:
The Career Development Center at Mount Holyoke College helps students explore interests, refine their paths, chart a course for the future, and gain the practical experience needed to succeed.
We facilitate connections between students and employers, alums, and other professionals to create opportunities to engage and build networks.
Mount Holyoke is currently searching for an Assistant Director to join our team in the Career Development Center. As a key member of the team, the Assistant Director will take leadership on the overall priority of engaging alums and employers in career development programs and services for students. The Assistant Director will cultivate and steward relationships with alums who are interested in providing support for students, plan programs with alums, and will develop and manage programs that connect Mount Holyoke students with alums and employers.
The Assistant Director will also work closely with their Career Development Center colleagues to plan and execute a comprehensive career development program for Mount Holyoke College students and recent graduates; provide individual advising; design and lead workshops and events; produce career-oriented materials; and collaborate with academic departments and other campus partners.
Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Alum and Employer Engagement & Event Management (40%): - Work with the Senior Associate Director of External Relations and External Relations Specialist, oversee alum outreach needs. This includes engaging alums for volunteer programs such as career panels, affinity based workshops, student-alum networking events as well as recruitment programs which focus on preparing and hiring Mount Holyoke College students - Design, coordinate, and deliver innovative programs, workshops and other opportunities to help students learn more about given industry focus and engage with alums - Partner with the Alumnae Association and Development to strategically leverage alums from targeted industries and affinity groups programming - Assist with managing alum-related data
- Campus Stakeholder Strategy & Collaboration and Technical Strategy (10%): - Collaborate with staff, faculty, students, student organizations and others from the MHC community regarding strategic design, development and implementation of specialized industry resources, programs and workshops. - Help manage and create online resources, such as print materials and the Gates (PeopleGrove), to support the education and outreach needed to bring students, and alums/employers together.
- Student Engagement (50%): - Provide general and specialized career advising/coaching services and expertise within specific career sectors to students and recent graduates - Educate, assist and prepare students on specifics of applying and working at internships and full-time jobs. Search strategies, networking tactics, resume and interview prep, and salary negotiation. In addition, advising best practices on how to leverage social media platforms such as LinkedIn, and other online resources that will assist in securing internships and jobs. - Supervise one or more student workers
- This regular, 12-month position reports to the Senior Associate Director of External Relations, and works closely with CDC staff members who focus on advising, event coordination, and program management. The CDC is part of the College’s newly created Division of Student Success.
Qualifications: Well-qualified candidates will have:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree in a related field and/or 1-3 years of counseling, higher education or field related to human resources or business administration experience is preferred
- Experience providing career counseling or career advising to college students and/or college graduates from different academic areas and social identities
- Demonstrated ability working with alums and/or employers in a higher education context, and dedication to connecting external partners with students to support career preparation
- A demonstrated commitment to principles of community and diversity, and the ability and desire to effectively and consistently relate to a diverse alums and student population
- Excellent judgment, analytical skills, and oral and written communication and presentation skills
experience working independently and creatively to develop and lead programs large scale events, solve problems, and resolve differences
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, alumnae, and professionals from a variety of fields
- An ability to communicate quickly and thoroughly with many different stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
- An ability to work with multiple technology platforms - Google Workplace, Canva, Less Annoying, People Grove, Colleague
License/Certifications: A current, valid US driver’s license
