Job Summary
Housed in the Dr. Julia N. Visor Academic Center, the Coordinator of Academic Support Services oversees the planning, implementation, and management of academic support programs within the Academic Enhancement unit of University College. Key responsibilities include coordinating tutoring, supplemental instruction, academic/study skills workshops, and writing assistance; supervising and training staff and student employees (including a full-time staff member, graduate assistants, and 50+ student workers); managing daily operations; and ensuring effective outreach to students. The role also involves budget planning, program assessment through data collection, and maintaining schedules and resources for academic support services.
This position requires independent decision-making and strong organizational skills to advance the goals of Academic Enhancement and University College. Additionally, the Coordinator serves on the Academic Enhancement unit’s leadership team and works closely with the Associate Director of Academic Enhancement and other campus partners to align academic support services with institutional objectives and student success initiatives.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$50,000 - $55,000/annual
Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent degree.
2. One year of full-time (or part-time equivalent) work experience performing academic support duties in higher education.
3. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and produce quality work under deadlines.
4. Exemplary intercultural fluency through excellent communication skills including verbal, non-verbal, listening, problem solving, public presentations, and teamwork.
5. Working knowledge of basic office software (Microsoft Office Suite).
6. Progressively more responsible work experience in supervising, organizing, coordinating or other significant work with specific educational or administrative program initiatives.
7. Demonstrated ability and experience working in an inclusive environment, and a commitment to personal growth and learning that promotes the richness of a global campus
8. Exhibit professional and growth-minded demeanor that cultivates a culture of understanding and empathy.
9. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to effectively making public presentations.
10. Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, communication and teamwork.
11. Excellent organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience coordinating college level tutoring and/or college level academic support services
2. Master's Degree (preferred in Education, College Student Personnel, Psychology or related field).
3. Supervisory and/or leadership experience
4. Familiarity with Illinois State University and University College policies and procedures and state and federal law, in particular the Ethics Standards for all employees of the State of Illinois State University.
5. Ability to demonstrate flexibility in a changing administrative model.
6. Ability and experience working with diverse populations of students, peers, and public.
7. Ability to work independently and without intense supervision, but also effectively contributes to a team with a learner-centered and service-oriented philosophy.
Work Hours
Core Work Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm with occasional pre-scheduled meetings in the evenings outside of those hours
Functional Expectations
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score.
