Our Opportunity

We are seeking an Executive Director – Aboriginal Children and Young People who will work alongside the Office of Aboriginal Policy and Practice within the Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) to lead system-wide reform and improve outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people across Tasmania.

This role works closely with senior leaders, Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and government to embed Aboriginal voices, strengthen cultural governance and improve systems and services.

You will work with sensitivity to cultural, political and organisational contexts, using your experience and judgement to build strong partnerships and lead meaningful change.

What you will be doing

  • Lead work that improves the safety, wellbeing and outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people
  • Make sure policies and services are shaped by the voices of Aboriginal children, families and Aboriginal people across Tasmania.
  • Work in partnership with Aboriginal organisations to design and deliver better services
  • Enable Aboriginal-led approaches and strengthen self-determination
  • Provide trusted cultural advice to senior leaders, executives and government
  • Embed Aboriginal cultural governance and ensure accountability across the Department
  • Influence leaders across education, child safety and youth justice to drive system change
  • Promote cultural safety for Aboriginal children, families and staff
  • Grow and support the Aboriginal workforce across the Department
  • Monitor how the system is performing and lead improvements where needed

Essential Requirements

This is an Aboriginal identified position and will be filled in accordance with Employment Direction No. 10: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment in the Tasmanian State Service.

You will also need:

  • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People
  • To meet pre-employment check requirements
