The Arizona Attorney General’s Office is seeking a Section Chief Counsel for the State Government Division, Environmental Enforcement Section.

This position will provide strategic leadership for the State Government Division, Environmental Enforcement Section which provides legal service on behalf of the State of Arizona. Position will implement and enforce Office policies, provide legal advice on various and complex issues, including matters that have a profound influence upon the legislation of Arizona and the policies established by the client agencies served. Position will control the use of State resources to effectively represent the best interests of the State; provide technical assistance and staff training; make staff assignments; and evaluate performance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): |
Knowledge and understanding of applicable statutes; case law; and rules of State and Federal Courts and administrative agencies.
Knowledge of administrative rules and regulations.
Knowledge of Arizona rules of civil and criminal procedure.
Knowledge and experience in civil litigation.
Knowledge of the principles of administrative law, contracts, employment law, procurement and public records of law.
Knowledge of ethical standards applicable to lawyers and public employees.
Knowledge of effective management techniques.
Skill in motivation of employees.
Skill in leadership.
Skill in resolving problems arising between or among employees and between or among employees and clients.
Skill in persuasive oral and written communication pertaining to case presentation through various stages of representation, including litigation through trial and appeal, if required.
Skill in interpersonal relations necessary for effective team work, cooperation and conflict resolutions.
Ability to effectively lead a diverse group of legal and administrative professionals.
Ability to make sound judgments.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the highest level of State, City, County and Federal officials, members of the State Legislature, judges, other attorneys, the general public, and employees to afford the State the most effective legal representation.
Ability to analyze complex legal issues and apply legal principles and precedents to particular sets of facts.
Ability to develop effective management plans.
Ability to plan and direct the activities of a professional and para-professional staff engaged in delivering legal and administrative services.
Ability to display courteous and professional behavior.
Previous significant civil litigation and management experience.

Juris Doctorate
Admission to and good standing with the Arizona State Bar
