This position is eligible to participate in the ASE Stipend Pay Program, employees can earn up to $14,400 a year with qualifying certifications. We reimburse 100% of the cost for passed tests and offer training assistance!

Uniforms provided to shop employees at no charge and are eligible to participate in the Safety-toe Shoe reimbursement program (100% of cost up to $250.00 every other calendar year)

Personal Tool Allowance of $1000.00 per calendar year and Personal Tool Insurance Coverage 100% for qualified losses on state premises

 Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 6:00am – 2:30pm

Anticipated hiring salary is $26.1778 hourly ($54,449) annually with a potential to earn up to $33.1008 hourly ($68,849 annually) when ASE Triple Master Certified Technician status is obtained.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for assisting the shop supervisor in day to day operations of the Equipment Services (EQS) Equipment Shop. The working Lead Technician performs Preventative Maintenance (PM's) and repairs, schedules vehicles for service and repair, and oversees preventative maintenance and repairs.

Job Duties:

Assigns work, train and guide Repair Technicians on proper usage of automotive diagnostic tools/equipment.

Provide oversight and guidance to Repair Technicians and Service Assistants on daily workloads (scheduled/unscheduled) and maintenance priorities, to ensure that personnel are tasked in a manner that meets the standards of the monthly performance metrics, and customer service standards.

Conducts quality control and safety inspections, prepares labor reporting documents, and consults with customers.

Ensure vehicle/equipment assets are serviced and/or repaired in accordance with Federal, State, ADOT, Interagency Service Agreements and EQS Policy/Procedures.

Use automated fleet management programs to review shop automotive work orders, maintenance reports and other related data.

Operate a state vehicle and/or equipment requiring a CDL in the course and scope of state business.

Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge:
* Repairing/overhauling/troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems/components on medium-heavy duty vehicle/construction and off-road equipment.
* Operating principles of gasoline and diesel fueled internal combustion engines and emission control and light duty fuel systems.
* Vehicle and equipment power train system inspection, Electrical/electronic controls, hydraulic systems inspection, and diagnosis/repair procedures.
* ADOT Environmental Policy and Procedures and Equipment Services Policies and Procedures are preferred.
* Equipment management principles including scheduled preventative maintenance and record keeping and PC Fleet Management Systems.

Skill:

* Estimating time and cost of repair maintenance and PM work for a wide variety of automotive and heavy construction equipment.
* Preventative maintenance inspections.
* Projecting parts, supplies and staffing needs based on past usage and anticipated organizational activity changes.
* Scheduling/coordinating automotive/truck/heavy construction equipment service and repair to maximize utilization.
* Management oriented record keeping and report preparation.
* Computer programs such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

Ability:

* Lead and motivate employees and establish effective working relationships.
* Follow oral and written instructions.
* Interpret manufacturer's service manuals.
* Utilize a PC and PC programs including a Fleet Management System.
* Manage time effectively.
* Pass a physical exam and lift 50 lbs from floor to waist, push/pull 90 lbs.

Selective Preference(s):

Five years of journeyman level experience diagnosing and repairing a variety of automotive/light duty trucks; heavy duty trucks and construction equipment to include some experience in a leadership role.
Automotive Service of Excellence (ASE) Certification and/or Medium/Heavy Duty Truck, Bus or Heavy Equipment Manufacturer's certifications are highly desirable.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

EPA Section 609 Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within six months of employment.
