#1 SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S)-THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED:

 

Employees must currently be a Correctional Officer II with the Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation & Reentry, have worked a minimum of 12 months at the current division/institution.

 

Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • PERFORMANCE EVALUATION – Must receive a rating of meets expectations or better. 

  • VOLUNTARY DEMOTIONS – Employees accepting a voluntary demotion shall be required to remain in the classification/position requested for a period of at least one year before being considered for appointment to any other position. Voluntary demotion applicants must have an approved voluntary demotion memo on file with Central Promotional Register to be considered for a job offer. No job offers will be made without an approved voluntary demotion. The job offer will be made to the next available candidate.  

  • DEMOTIONS (DISCIPLINARY) – Any employee who has been demoted one level shall be ineligible to apply for a promotional opportunity for two years from the date of the demotion. If demoted more than one level, the employee shall be ineligible to apply for a promotional opportunity for three years from the date of the demotion. A demotion received after the promotional process has started and prior to promotion shall result in the permanent removal from that CPR. Once removed from a CPR for a demotion, the applicant shall not be eligible to compete for a Correctional Officer Series position until two or three years, depending on the number of levels demoted, after the date of the demotion. The first day served of the demotion shall be considered the effective date of the demotion.

#2 SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of D.O. 708 Searches,  be able write accurate and detailed reports, be able to work closely with various specialty units such as the Special Security Unit, Special Operations Group and the Criminal Investigations Unit. Must be willing to travel and work a varying schedule to include weekends and overnight shifts. Must have a high drive and attention to detail. 


#3 EVALUATION:

Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of training and experience. Therefore, please note the following:

Candidates who meet the announced qualifications will be certified to the register and referred to the Hiring Authority for further consideration. 

 

An oral board may be convened as part of the evaluation process. 

 

THIS REGISTER MAY BE USED TO DEVELOP FUTURE HIRING LISTS FOR SIMILAR POSITIONS IN THE SAME GEOGRAPHICAL AREA FOR UP TO SIX MONTHS. 

 

Job Duties:

#4 EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Responsible for conducting thorough searches of inmates, staff, contractors and visitors; this includes the collection, reporting and disposition of hazardous contraband. This role requires a keen attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to detect and identify contraband effectively. Must have strong report writing skills. 

Required to travel on state business. Perform other duties as appropriate to the assignment. 

Work Conditions: Shift work: exposure to hazards associated with duties maintaining security, order and discipline of inmates in and outside of an institution.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Some positions require a medical/physical evaluation, psychological examination, pre-employment drug screening, and a background investigation prior to appointment. A current Arizona driver's license appropriate to the assignment is required at the time of appointment. As a condition of continued employment, employees in a safety sensitive position may be subject to random drug testing, as required by Department Policy. Selected candidates must successfully complete Correctional Officer Training Academy (COTA).
