| The Psychologist 3 may direct and supervise the work of professional psychologists or therapists in the provision of services to patients/residents of an inpatient setting who present with psychological disorders and a range of life struggles. Major tasks of the psychologist role include: participates as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team, providing psychological services to the patients on a civil and/or forensic inpatient unit; consults with staff of other disciplines to determine effective treatment interventions; performs psychological evaluations that might include violence risk assessment, neuropsychological assessment, psychological evaluation for diagnostic clarification, and evaluations of competency to stand trial; conducts individual and group therapy; develops behavior plans to address aggression, self-injury, and other maladaptive behaviors; participates in training of psychology interns and practicum students; offers educational trainings to hospital staff on a variety of topics as needed; provides documentation of all services performed. Might participate in implementing programs such as cognitive remediation for patients with serious mental illness. |
