SENIOR DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 (DOE)

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Chief Technology Officer, the Database Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of all database systems and related technologies, ensuring the availability, integrity, and security of mission-critical databases. This role involves developing and implementing policies and procedures for database use and access, and applying strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to ensure optimal database performance.

The ideal candidate will apply proven skills in designing and implementing new database systems, installing and configuring database software, optimizing performance, ensuring data security, managing backups and recovery, troubleshooting user issues, and collaborating with other IT staff.

The Database Administrator will also stay current with emerging database technologies and best practices to maintain robust and efficient data management capabilities for the organization.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

• Assist in developing purge/archive criteria and procedures for historical application data on a relation model database environment

• Proactively solves complex problems, and Troubleshoots application key selection, creation of appropriate indexes, and query needs

• Establishes database procedures and standards; assists in database design; and maintains database documentation

• Translates user’s needs into a sound database design with tables, fields, and relationships documented

• Performance tunes, reviews, and recommends improvements to existing architectures and code(s)

• Reviews, evaluates, designs, implements, and maintains organizational database(s)

• Implement and review appropriate security guidelines/mechanisms

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge:

• Various Industry standards for data capture, transmission, consumption, and reporting

• Physical data models, technical architecture, system interfaces, etc

• Normalized and dimensional modeling techniques

Skills:

• Develop and write technical documentation and demonstrated experience with scripting languages, particularly Python and/or PHP, to automate tasks and enhance database operations

• Proficient analytical skills to evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, consolidate details, and extract into functional
requirements

• Install and support relational database management systems (RDMS)

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

• Design relational databases

Ability:

• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

• Work collaboratively in teams and across organizations

• Synthesize feedback and adjust plans accordingly

• Balance, prioritize, and organize multiple tasks

Selective Preference(s):

• Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Database - Specialty, or similar certifications demonstrating expertise in database administration and architecture

• Additionally, holding certifications like the Zend Certified PHP Engineer or the Python Institute's Certified Associate in Python Programming would be highly advantageous

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree plus 5 or more years of experience in database administration (or equivalent experience)

• Requires a criminal background (fingerprint) check in accordance with A.A.C. R2-5A-303

Retirement:
