A graduate assistant club coach both leads a club team and serves as an assistant coach for an IWU varsity sport team (or provides similar work to the athletic department).

The Assistant Softball Coach must be committed to the Lordship of Christ. This not only means having the correct intellectual belief, but it also involves a radical transformation in every area of one’s lifestyle. The Coach must continually seek opportunities to grow and possess strong character traits through the regular practicing of the spiritual disciplines (e.g., prayer, meditation, Bible reading) and develop ministry values that express what God can do in impacting student athletes with whom they interact. The primary role of the Assistant Softball Coach will be to spearhead the recruiting efforts within the IWU Softball program. This individual will need to be relational and desire to connect with and build relationships with high school and club programs in Indiana and the surrounding states. They will also need to be able to develop a recruitment plan aimed at accomplishing our team’s recruiting goals. Additionally, this individual must have a collegiate softball coaching background and the ability to contribute to player development by leading instruction in an area of the game aligned with their expertise. There will be “other duties as assigned” throughout the year. This position involves frequent verbal, written, and email correspondence with students, parents, faculty, and staff. At Indiana Wesleyan, we believe that we have the opportunity and responsibility to disciple and mentor student-athletes as they seek to grow in their faith in Jesus Christ. The sport we coach creates the environment where that discipleship is possible. In recent years, our Athletic Department has embraced an idea called the “Both/And” mentality in which we believe we can pursue both excellence in our sport AND excellence in our relationship with Jesus Christ without having to make sacrifices in either one. The ideal candidate will align with and have a desire to learn and embrace this mentality in their life and work.

The Graduate Assistantship in Housing is a year-round, part-time, live-in position (10hrs per week May-July and 15hrs per week during the academic year, with a full-time training period in August). The GA is responsible for providing administrative leadership, community support, and engagement opportunities for students within a residential area. This position complements a graduate student’s academic experience as an opportunity to apply theory and research practices learned in the classroom to daily student interactions that include advising, counseling, conflict mediation and to professional practices ranging from programming to assessment processes. Graduate Assistants work collaboratively as vital members of the Residence Life team, serving on departmental committees and participating in ongoing professional development.
