Job Description:

The Transplant Financial Coordinator will coordinate the pre-transplant financial evaluation; assist with follow-up of accounting transactions and patient financial management. Responds to patient and referring physician inquiries. Coordinator duties include consenting patients, preparing all financial documentation prior to medical services, data collection, and any other tasks necessary for the successful completion of the patient finances. Promotes departmental financial planning by adhering to institutional and departmental policies and by continuing in ongoing performance improvement activities. This position is responsible for proper screening of potential transplant candidates to determine patient financial responsibility and ability to pay for a transplant. Will work and validate third party payers to obtain prior authorizations and ensure all insurance and federal requirements are met for maximum reimbursement. Obtain any and all financial assistance for patients demonstrating a financial need. Will supervise and oversee accurate registration of all transplant candidates clinic and ancillary visits. This will ensure all visits will be recorded on the Medicare Cost Report and maximum reimbursement is received. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in comparable field or equivalent experience preferred.
• Five years experience with transplant financials, insurance verification, precertification, and       transplant financial counseling.
• Working knowledge of state and federal regulations related to our patient population.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills. Culturally appropriate communication skills a must.
• Medical terminology required.
• Computer skills with sound theoretical mind and practical understanding of hospital billing, collection, and third-party reimbursement processes as well as registration systems. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Prior training and supervision experience required.
• Demonstrated dependability, initiative, and leadership skills.
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to work independently. Exhibits accuracy, integrity, and flexibility; is punctual and dependable possesses organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
