Job Description:

The Director of Sponsored Programs supports University of Toledo (UToledo) mission by facilitating faculty and researcher efforts to obtain external funding for sponsored programs and research through grants, contracts, and other sources. The Director provides oversight and management of all aspects of proposal administration, sponsored program and other research agreements, and contract and award negotiation with external agencies. The Director ensures compliance with all federal administrative requirements and costing principles, state and local government regulations, sponsor restrictions, and university fiscal and compliance policies for sponsored programs. The Director of Sponsored Programs stays abreast of all current policies, rules and regulations relating to clinical research, export control, federal, state, local, industry and foundation grant requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required in a related discipline such as research administration, accounting, finance, or business.

Significant relevant professional experience (5-10 years), with a track record of increasing responsibility

Experience in interpreting agency / sponsor grant proposal and expenditure guidelines.

Experience in working with external stakeholders such as sponsors, industry, or university collaborators.

Strong leadership and team-building abilities to collaborate effectively with various departments.

Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills and critical analyses abilities.

Excellent writing and oral communication skills

Broad experience in research administration, strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work with diverse populations, and ability to maintain positive working relationships with faculty and administrators while conforming to grant requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in business, finance, accounting or J.D. or related discipline

Previous experience working in a grants related university setting.

Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Pre-award Research Administrator (CPRA), or Certified Financial research Administrator (CFRA) certification.

Experience mentoring, training or supervision of staff.
