About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire an Equipment Repair Manager in our Communications Division at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will manage the daily operations of the Fleet Services Garage which includes supervision of nine service technicians; provide technical advice regarding the diagnosing, repairing and servicing of a variety of vehicles; analyze equipment or vehicle system failures; work with vehicle and equipment manufacturers, and part vendors to identify and/or fabricate Virginia State Police specific parts and components; evaluate and analyze garage operations, procedures, equipment, parts/supplies, quality control, and implement improvements; review operations for adherence to safety standards; manage training on emergency vehicle equipment and troubleshooting; monitor and conduct audits for quality control and compliance; prepare periodic reports and summaries and maintains appropriate records; manage State Police Headquarters fuel operations which includes monitoring daily activities, ordering fuel, and processing payment to the fuel vendors; and maintain compliance with State and Federal fuel regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

•Knowledge of automotive systems, equipment installation of electronic and police equipment; of safety principles related to law enforcement shop operations; of using an asset management system to track program related assets and equipment; and of automotive repair techniques such as mechanical and body repair.
•Skill in operating computers and using MS Office Suite applications.
•Skill in the use of handheld power tools and automotive diagnostic testing equipment.
•Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair equipment problems and read and interpret repair manuals; to conduct research for law enforcement specific enhancements and/or modifications necessary to meet the operational needs; to prioritize fluctuating workload and maintain a variety of records; to prioritize and schedule workload of direct reports; to manage and supervise numerous technical staff; to train and evaluate the performance of subordinates; to multitask and work with multiple, diverse agencies; to balance priorities and communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing; and to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
•Knowledge of state inspection rules and regulations and surplus property policies are required.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work within a para-military organization, vendors, and other Commonwealth agencies.
•Experience in automotive/mechanical and/or electronic equipment systems and repair is required.
•Ability to work during Agency or Governor declared emergency event is required.
•Virginia Operator's License is required.
•Virginia State Inspection certification required.
•Ability to travel as needed is required.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Additional Considerations

• Forklift experience is preferred.
•Ability to operate a roll back type car carrier is preferred.
•Class A CDL/commercial is preferred.
