Central State Hospital (CSH), a State of Virginia mental health hospital located near Petersburg, VA, is recruiting a full-time Plumber/Steamfitter to join our team. The purpose of the Plumber/Steamfitter is ensuring journeyman level plumbing/pipefitting and Zone Mechanic work is performed as assigned with responsibility for determining the appropriate work methods. The plumber/steamfitter performs assignments independently therefore responsible for planning the assigned work, following sketches, diagrams and blueprints. The Plumber/Steamfitter must have through education/experience that possess full range of knowledge and skills in the area of Pluming/Steam Fitting. The successful incumbent must be skilled in the use of all related trade tools. Must have the ability to read, write, read blueprints and specifications. The incumbent must have the ability to analyze system/fixture defects and malfunctions to determine the scope of the problem. Also, have the ability to perform small repairs in the areas of carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and painting.

As a Trades Technician II, you are on a rotating On Call/Call Back schedule. As a mission critical employee, there is an expectation that you respond to any and all emergency calls as stated in CSH PPS Policy Letter #2.

Job Duties:
- Performs diagnostic and corrective maintenance repairs for major/minor installation, repairs and alteration to all plumbing, plumbing fixtures, domestic water system, gas lines, sanitary/steam sewers, steam/return systems, pipe fitting, welding, and installation for all piping within uniform building code guidelines, manufacturer’s specifications, environmental, OSHA and other adopted safety protocols and requirements within specified timeframes of work order.
- Performs general preventive, corrective maintenance and notes deficiencies in assigned Zone by creating work orders as well as PM water temps at mixing valves, eye washes, steam traps and other related parts, pipe insulation, etc.
- Check Sanitary and Storm Sewer systems for cross contamination and illicit discharges as scheduled in work order system.
- Enters time, progress, materials, tasks and completion data for work performed on assigned work orders in the automated work order system.
- Maintain service maintenance records, work orders, and requisitions and other miscellaneous records as needed or requested by administration.
- Weather Related Duties to consist of but not limited to Snow and Ice removal from sidewalks / roadways.
- Emergency Call Back for assigned time period after normal business hours/schedule, holidays and weekend.
- Mandatory and other training as required to maintain certifications. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications

- Must have the ability to read, understand and follow written job assignments;
- Must have valid Virginia Driver's License
- Experience as a Plumber / Steam Fitter

Additional Considerations

- Journeyman's Card
- Completion of Plumbing / Steam Fitter course from a technical school
- Experience working in hospital and/or mental health setting
