Job Duties

Colonial Heights General District Court is seeking a career minded, team player to join our staff. The Deputy Clerk (grade 8) is assigned operational responsibilities in a fast paced, high-volume office with frequent critical deadlines. This position must ensure court’s instructions are executed and legal documents prepared with accuracy and in accordance with state and local policies.

Handle a wide range of complex clerical and financial tasks, assist in the validation and accuracy of court disposition documents; act as an information liaison between the court and the public; receipt fines and costs; enter summonses, process, file and scan court documents. The selected individual must possess sound problem resolution skills; deliver a high degree of customer service to the public and interfacing agencies; management of competing priorities; detailed oriented; possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have a positive can-do attitude. Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required, some college preferred. Most competitive applicants will have knowledge of the court/criminal justice system; excellent clerical skills, verbal and written communication and experience with in-person customer service. Candidate must be highly organized; able to follow and explain procedures, proven ability to multitask, time management skills and handle all types of money transactions. Punctual, reliable attendance and positive attitude a must. Must have accurate data entry skills. Physical Requirements: Lift up to 30lbs, bending to retrieve files and standing for long periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience - Most competitive applicants will have knowledge of the court/criminal justice system. Advanced knowledge of office automation systems and computer software.
