Job Duties
Position provides laboratory support in the Medical Department at a Major Correctional Center.
Primarily performs various lab tests, such as blood counts, sodium and potassium analysis, serum chemistries, urinalysis, and a number of other procedures.
Performs control-value testing on equipment, updates charts and records, schedules appointments, and maintains documentation in appropriate logs and files.
Provides orientation to medical staff and inmates and maintains adequate and appropriate lab supplies.
Assists in the Medical Unit supporting others as needed. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Phlebotomy skills to include venipuncture
- Knowledge of microbiology and laboratory science
- Ability to operate and maintain various point-of-care equipment
- Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of record keeping
- Skilled in recording and reporting test results
- Demonstrated ability to operate standard laboratory equipment
- Demonstrated skill and proficiency in the use of computers and related hardware, applications, and software to include the Internet and Microsoft Office or similar office productivity software, and automated databases
- Ability to accurately assess situations
- Ability to work independently and prioritize assignments
- Ability to follow established laboratory procedures and manage/meet all deadlines

- Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment
