Job Duties

This is an hourly/wage position, limited to 1500 hours per cycle year with an average of 29 hours per week. No State/Medical benefits provided.

VDOT''s Lynchburg District is seeking a Fuel Delivery Driver to join their team! As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient loading, transporting, and delivering of bulk fuel from the Lynchburg District location to fuel locations upon request by the District Fuel Coordinator. This role will also require the Fuel Delivery Driver to take fuel samples from fuel locations, as well as perform routine maintenance work as requested by the District Fuel Coordinator. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and excellent customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities:
· Deliver Fuel: Safely transport and deliver fuel to VDOT Fuel Locations upon request by the District Fuel Coordinator, ensuring accurate and timely deliveries.
· Routine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance at fuel sites such as, but not limited to, changing filters on dispensers, replacing damaged fuel hoses and/or fittings, etc. Will also be responsible for taking fuel samples as requested by the District Fuel Coordinator.
· Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by addressing any concerns, answering questions, and maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
· Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine inspections on the delivery truck to ensure it is in good working condition. Report any mechanical issues to the Assets & Inventory Manager.
· Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies related to fuel handling, delivery procedures, and vehicle operation.
· Documentation: Complete all required paperwork and electronic records, including delivery logs, fuel tickets, and inspection reports.
· Emergency Response: Be prepared to handle any emergency situations that may arise during deliveries, including minor fuel spills or mechanical issues.
· Route Management: Plan and follow the most efficient routes to minimize delivery times and fuel consumption.

 

Minimum Qualifications

· Valid CDL: A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the appropriate endorsements for fuel delivery.
· Experience: Previous experience in fuel delivery or a similar role is preferred but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.
· Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of safety procedures related to fuel handling and delivery.
· Customer Service Skills: Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse customer base.
· Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and perform physical tasks associated with fuel delivery.
· Clean Driving Record: A clean driving record with no major violations or accidents.
· Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing paperwork and following delivery procedures.
