Job Duties

At the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA), we create unique dining experiences. Amuse Restaurant is a contemporary fine dining restaurant overlooking the Robins Sculpture Garden, featuring an innovative menu and fresh, local ingredients. This is a 40-hour, salaried, non-exempt position with paid holidays, annual leave, family leave and health benefits from the Commonwealth of Virginia.

About the Work: 


The work is straightforward, working together to offer an elevated dining experience.


The Amuse Assistant General Manager assists with the management of Amuse Restaurant at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Reporting to the Amuse General Manager, this “hands on” Assistant Manager will oversee day-to-day operations in Amuse, a full-service upscale restaurant.


Here is how the Amuse Assistant General Manager accomplishes this as part of a team:

● Oversee and delegate the work of front-line staff in a fine-dining setting to ensure a high-quality, clean, and organized work environment
● Provide exceptional service to guests, resolve issues that arise and accommodate guests as appropriate
● Set up and break down space for service
● Inspect food service equipment and maintain inventory of supplies
● Count cash drawers and complete financial reports
● Take reservations and coordinate luncheons and dinners
● Participate in hiring and training of staff

Minimum Qualifications


● Minimum 3 years’ experience managing restaurants in a fine dining setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
● Strong familiarity with full-service bar and ABC operations.
● Strong communication skills (written/reading/verbal), and ability to comprehend directions and instructions
● Ability to communicate efficiently, professionally and graciously with guests and co-workers in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
● Ability to independently solve routine problems.
● Familiar with or willing to learn food service technology such as HotSchedules, Micros, OpenTable, Kronos, and any future technology to the Museum’s Food Service Department.
● Flexible availability that includes weekends, evenings and holidays

Additional Considerations

● Fine dining management experience
● RSVP/TIPS certification
● ServSafe Food Handler or equivalent certification
