Job Duties

A 3E Readiness Regional Coordinator serves as a bridge between schools and employers and military partners to ensure every student is ready for employment and enlistment after graduation. This Coordinator provides hands-on technical expertise to middle and high schools, helping educators design and deliver career-connected learning that exposes students to high-demand industries and pathways. Beyond supporting high-value CTE programs, this role also will promote awareness of Workforce Pell Grants, pre- and youth Apprenticeships, high-quality Work-Based learning, and high-demand industry-recognized credentials that align with regional labor needs. Ultimately, this position helps schools build sustainable systems in partnership with industry to prepare every student for success in the modern workforce and economy as well as in emerging industries. This role will work closely with other regional specialists at Virginia Works, SCHEV, and VCCS to build the pipeline continuum for students and industry partners.

The Office of Advanced Learning serves as the conduit for student pathways to enrollment in postsecondary options and works closely with SCHEV and VCCS.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Military experience with honorable discharge, demonstrated significant apprenticeship or career experience or graduation from an accredited college or university with an associates or bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of CTE and program administration, including state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures for grades 6-12 and adults.
  • Knowledge of pre-apprenticeships and Youth Apprenticeship requirements and funding opportunities, including but not limited to the Carl D. Perkins Vocational & Technical Education Act and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
  • Knowledge of the spectrum of high-quality Work-Based Learning experiences for K-12 students as well as adult upskilling and re-entry Work-Based Learning pathways.
  • Knowledge of Virginia Office of Education Economics (VOEE) High Demand Occupations List as well as the strategic plans for the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Virginia Housing & Community Development, Virginia Works, and the Virginia Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
  • Familiarity with the Virginia School Construction Assistance Grant Program and opportunities for support of regional and individual high-demand CTE programs as well as flexible and innovative public learning models.
  • Ability to manage projects effectively from concept development through program implementation.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, anticipate and meet deadlines, and respond to changing priorities. Ability to conduct research, draw sound conclusions, and report findings.
  • Proven ability to work as a team player, to coordinate and collaborate with the other regional coordinators, and to appropriately exhibiting a positive attitude .
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a diverse constituency including the ability to draft reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and review workforce development programming.
  • Considerable knowledge of project management, including the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deliverables with critical timelines; insight and ability to anticipate problems and develop solutions; and the ability to manage program resources.
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise manner using effective business English and grammar to convey technical information to professional and lay audiences.
  • Adaptability in communication style: Adjusts delivery based on the audience—whether speaking to technical teams, customers, or executives.
  • Prioritization and time management: Efficiently handles multiple requests, prioritizing urgent issues without compromising quality.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex information, performance data, and state and federal regulations and policies and communicate this information to a variety of stakeholders.

  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with public and private partners focused on 3E relevant activities.
  • Considerable knowledge of competency-based curriculum, research-based instructional practices, and high quality sustained professional development practices.
  • Troubleshooting expertise: Quickly identifies root causes and provides actionable solutions across a range of technical issues; streamline support processes and reduce turnaround time.
  • Considerable knowledge of technology tools and skills in the use of computers, devices, various databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software, video conferencing software, and cloud-based storage solutions.
