Job Duties:
The Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) employs and develops Virginians who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf/blind to achieve their desired level of employment through the manufacture and delivery of quality products and services.
VIB seeks a Supply Store Material Handler.
- Perform clerical and physical tasks in connection with receiving incoming shipments of merchandise.
- Perform deliveries of merchandise to customers.
- Responsibilities also include industrial power equipment such as ride on pallet jack operation, material movement, POS register operation, providing customer service, stockroom organization and flow of merchandise from the stockroom to the salesfloor.
- Other duties in support of the operation of the Base Supply Center such as cash register operation, customer service, stocking the sales floor and assisting the Brand Team.
Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Completes duties and/or projects as needed or directed by supervisor.
This position is located at the border of Washington, DC and Arlington, VA.
Minimum Qualifications:
Certification:
• Must be able to be certified and maintain certification by Pentagon 3rd party to operate industrial power equipment at the Pentagon.
Skills:
• Demonstrated problem-solving and excellent customer service skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills, familiarity with internet, Microsoft Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software.
Abilities:
• Ability to perform duties independently without direct supervision.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand up to 8 hours.
• Ability to operate a pallet jack / industrial power equipment such as a ride on pallet jack.
Additional Considerations:
• General warehousing and/or retail experience.
• Experience working in a federal government environment.
Special Instructions:
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check for access to the military base.
This position is exempt from the Virginia Personnel Act and is otherwise known as non-classified.
