Job Duties
*This is a GENEDGE position. P&HCC/VCCS serve as current fiscal agent. West Piedmont Higher Education Center (formerly New College Institute) is the location of GENEDGE Headquarters.*
The MEP (Manufacturing Extension Partnership) Center Director reports to the Executive Director and will provide operational and strategic support to the Executive Director and direct the MEP Center program. The MEP Center Director will lead and mentor center MEP division staff and all activities within the MEP program.
This position requires significant overnight travel, primarily within Virginia but at times regionally and nationally. This position requires a valid driver’s license; selected applicants must be able to pass a criminal background check. This is a hybrid position; Genedge has offices in Martinsville, Richmond, and Newport News and staff and clients throughout the Commonwealth.
Hiring Range: $159,680- $239,520

Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership and Management
· Oversee day-to-day operations of the MEP Center, ensuring daily client development and the successful execution of programs and services.
- Develop and execute client services portion of annual operating plan and develop daily and weekly priorities for staff across the state
- · Manage and mentor a team of business advisors and subject matter experts to drive client engagement and meet client fee targets. Drive statewide event schedule and partnership working relationships to support client development
· Develop and maintain a statewide network of subject matter experts and third-party partners who support delivery of client projects, trainings, workshops, and events
· Collaborate with partnership relations manager to develop market-driven perspective on resource and third-party needs to enable high-quality service delivery.
· Oversee the continuous learning and improvement activities for the organization.
· Ensure the quality of delivery by internal and external resources meets client expectations.
· Account for program and project time of delivery resources and their deliverables.
· Manage stakeholder relationship with NIST-MEP and support administrative requirements to assure proper project management, closure, and impact collection and reporting.
- Maximize client impact results and formulate case studies
- Develop and manage senior client relationships
- Collaborate with Executive Director on partnership development and grant opportunities that would support client development efforts
Strategic Planning and Program Development
· Identify and pursue opportunities for innovation and growth, including initiatives in advanced manufacturing, green technologies, and supply chain resilience.
- Prepare quarterly board presentations to brief MEP Center operating performance
- Effectively engage board members on legislative advocacy and client development
· Lead the development of new programs and services, ensuring alignment with client needs and industry trends.
· Promote continuous improvement in program delivery, utilizing data-driven methods to evaluate and enhance impact.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, manufacturing, or business or related field; an advanced degree is highly preferred.
· 10+ years of experience in manufacturing or a related field, including 5 years in senior leadership roles with P&L responsibilities and revenue production
- 3+ years of professional services experience which may include consulting, investment banking, or another services-focused operation.
· Experience or understanding of engaging with legislative bodies and securing funding from non-NIST federal agencies.
· Demonstrated success in leading and mentoring teams to achieve operational excellence.
· A working knowledge of multiple key processes such as product development, financial analysis/cost accounting, industrial marketing/sales, logistics/purchasing, quality systems, supply chain, process improvement, and operations
Skills
· Exceptional communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills.
· Operational planning and financial management expertise, with a focus on diversified funding.
· Strong understanding of Virginia’s legislative processes and economic development priorities preferred; other State considered
· Efficient project management combined with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
· Demonstrated executive engagement and facilitation at the corporate level.
· Possess significant consulting or direct customer-facing experience.
· Demonstrated capabilities in supply chain management and sourcing.
· Highly effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Confident, outgoing, and adaptable to change.
· Versatile professional with experience working with clients from various walks of life.
· Works well under pressure.
· Excellent presentation and communication skills.
