Job Duties
The Youth & Family Studio Programs Intern will spend 12-14 weeks working 15-39 hours/week (hours will increase after the first five weeks to accommodate the summer camp program) in Youth & Family Studio Programs learning about careers in museum and art education, gaining hands-on teaching experience with K-12 programs, gathering insight into curriculum and program development, and collaborating with other VMFA departments. The intern will also contribute as appropriate to the Museum’s blogs and social media outlets, present learning and work results to VMFA staff and when appropriate a wider audience, and share experiences with peers and community members to promote VMFA and opportunities in museum education. This position is made possible by the Davenport Family Foundation.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate should have:
-a background in studio art and/or some experience teaching children;
-strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences both orally and in writing;
-experience using Microsoft Office Suite and other computer programs;
-excellent organizational skills; and
-a willingness to learn, take initiative, and jump in where needed to support team efforts.
Additional Considerations
The ideal candidate will be in their third or fourth year of undergraduate studies with an interest in a potential career in art education, education, studio arts, museum education, museum studies, community outreach, or a similar field.
The selected candidate must pass a criminal history background check.
