Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is excited to announce an opening for a part-time Industrial Electricity Adjunct Instructor. This position allows you to work on an as-needed basis during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., giving you the opportunity to share your expertise with aspiring electricians in a supportive and engaging environment.

We are looking for a knowledgeable instructor who is proficient in commercial and industrial electrical wiring, the National Electrical Code, AC and DC theory, motor controls, solid-state electronics, electric motor transformers, branch circuit protection, fuse sizing, and motor overload protection. Job Duties

  • The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering comprehensive instruction across all phases of the Industrial Electricity program, encompassing both theoretical and practical aspects of the curriculum while adhering to established safety protocols and program standards. Key responsibilities include monitoring and evaluating student progress, maintaining accurate program and student records, and fostering an active advisory committee. Regular communication with local businesses and industry partners is essential to ensure alignment with current industry standards.
  • Additional duties involve curriculum development and updates, ensuring that all materials reflect the latest safety practices and industry trends. The instructor will also focus on student recruitment, placement, and follow-up to support student success. Engaging in ongoing personal training and professional development will be critical to staying informed about advancements and changes within the electrical industry. Minimum Qualifications

• Candidates must have a high school diploma/GED
• Graduate of a post-secondary technical program or apprenticeship training
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a related field

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching experience is a plus
• Earned an Associate's Degree from an accredited institution
• Knowledge of Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) policies and procedures

• Must have a strong hands-on technical background
• Must possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher
• Must commit to remaining current in the field
• Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Must possess computer skills and the ability to utilize technology to enhance teaching
• Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
• Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with students, the public, and other employees
• Strong customer service skills
• Computer skills, including general knowledge of Microsoft Office
• The instructor will ensure that all activities comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Physical Demands / Working Conditions The workday has the potential to be varied based on the needs of the students and faculty. Lab and material prep will always be necessary daily, and the requirement to move between classrooms and work areas, often with materials and supplies. Overseeing a lab also involves standing and walking. Must be able to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, and reach overhead, and lift a minimum of 20+ pounds. Must be able to use tools or special devices to work.

Salary: Hourly rate is $30
