The Director of Accounting and Reporting provides comprehensive and advanced administrative and budgetary support through the development and distribution of annual reports as directed by the Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services. Reports include, but are not limited to, the College’s financial statements; Estimated, Proposed, and Revised operating budgets; risk management; capital budgets; and appropriations requests. This position maintains the general ledger, closes transactions at the end of the month and fiscal year, and is responsible for fixed asset accounting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and supervise the preparation of the annual financial statements in accordance with the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and government reporting requirements. Serve as backup for the preparation of Foundation financial statements.
- Coordinate data collection and preparation of the operating budget for the Estimated, Proposed, and Revised budget cycles. Responsible for the submission and distribution of budget documents to TBR and Dyersburg State Community College budget managers.
- Responsible for the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes of the finance administrative software system and the general ledger accounts.
- Review and retain monthly reports to ensure accuracy of financial data.
- Provide comprehensive and advanced budgetary support to the College’s budget managers, including periodic training using the Banner Finance module.
- Prepare numerous monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Support State Auditors in their review of the annual financial statements.
- Prepare risk assessment reports for TBR Internal Audit.
- Maintain fixed asset accounts, annual depreciation, and property insurance valuations.
- Supervise the Business Financial Services and Student Financial Services areas.
- Assist with cash functions, including daily ACH tasks.
- Maintain approval routing queues for all financial transactions including journal vouchers, requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, and credit cards in the Banner Finance module and the Jaggaer purchasing system.
- Provide Banner Finance and Jaggaer training for new users.
- Monitor, research, and approve or disapprove documents with errors that are electronically sent to Banner overflow.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services.
Working Conditions:
Sedentary: Deskwork; occasional travel may be required for college or program activities. Insignificant effort other than normal movement. Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office settings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, accounting pronouncements, and regulations, and to clearly communicate detailed information in both written and verbal formats.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve accounting issues.
- Excellent attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize competing tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Experience managing staff and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Eight or more years of increasingly responsible accounting or auditing experience, including the preparation and review of financial statements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Higher education accounting experience or auditing experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Ellucian Banner ERP system.
Minimum starting salary is $85,853 annually ($44.02 per hour). With additional experience pay increases to a maximum of $107,343.
