Position Summary
- The Simulation Technician (Sim Tech) is a hands-on, team-oriented support position that assists simulation faculty with the daily setup, operation, and breakdown of simulation and skills lab activities in the nursing program.
- The Sim Tech is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all simulation equipment and audiovisual/information technology (AV/IT) systems, including manikins, task trainers, computers, monitors, cameras, microphones, and related equipment.
- The Sim Tech ensures that all rooms, equipment, and supplies are fully prepared and functional at least 15 minutes before each scheduled simulation, remains present during sessions to support faculty and address technical issues, and completes post-simulation breakdown, cleaning, restocking, and resetting of rooms and equipment.
- The Sim Tech provides flexible support in both the simulation lab and skills lab, demonstrating teamwork and adaptability to meet daily program needs, and may serve as a simulated participant (SP) when needed.
- When simulations are not in progress, the Sim Tech assists with administrative tasks, clerical support, inventory management, supply organization, and general program support as assigned.
Essential Functions
Teaching Excellence
- Set up simulation rooms, manikins, task trainers, monitors, medications, supplies, and equipment according to faculty instructions for each scenario.
- Test manikins, computers, AV equipment, and monitors prior to student arrival to confirm proper function.
- Assist faculty during simulations by adjusting equipment, troubleshooting issues, and supporting scenario flow.
- Reset rooms and equipment between groups and at the end of the day.
- Help create a realistic, safe, and organized learning environment for students.
Program Innovation
- Learn and use new simulation equipment and technologies as they are introduced.
- Offer practical suggestions to improve setup efficiency, room organization, and workflow.
- Remain flexible and open to changes in scenarios, schedules, and teaching methods.
Holistic Student Support
- Greet and interact with students in a professional, supportive, and respectful manner.
- Help students with basic equipment questions and direct them to faculty when appropriate.
- Maintain a calm, supportive presence in the lab to promote student confidence and learning.
- Create an accessible, welcoming lab environment where every student feels safe and supported.
Organizational Culture
- Work as a reliable team member with simulation faculty, nursing faculty, and other staff.
- Communicate clearly with faculty about setup needs, supply issues, and equipment concerns.
- Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed.
- Complete clerical, cleaning, restocking, and general support duties as assigned.
Fiscal Stewardship
- Use supplies and equipment responsibly and according to program guidelines.
- Track and restock supplies in simulation and skills labs.
- Maintain organized storage areas and report low inventory to the Simulation Coordinator.
- Clean and care for manikins, task trainers, and equipment to extend their lifespan.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment promptly.

Education and Experience
- Must possess a minimum formal education of an associate's degree
- If formal education is not in a healthcare-related field, one must possess a healthcare-related certification or licensure
- Minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare, clinical, or patient care environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing
- Previous experience in skills labs, simulation labs, or technical support.
- Experience working in a team-based, hands-on environment.
Salary Range: $44,156 - $55,472
