| The TRIO Upward Bound program is a federally funded grant from the U.S. Department of Education which covers 100% of the program costs. This year-round program provides academic support, college preparation, career awareness, and other support services to low-income and potential first-generation college students. It is designed to help students become more successful in high school and prepare to enter and successfully complete postsecondary education. The program works with the following four target high schools within Memphis, TN: Douglass, Hamilton, Manassas, and Trezevant.
For six weeks, TRIO Upward Bound operates a residential summer academy for 40 students on the Union campus. Students participate in high school or college classes during the day and tutoring sessions during the evening including organized recreation and enrichment activities. The program also offers educational and cultural exploration designed to promote personal and social growth. |
