About the Department:

George Mason University's Information Technology Services (ITS) organization provides information technology resources, systems, services, tools, and training to the university community. ITS's mission is to advance Mason’s strategic goals, support learning, enable scholarly endeavors, and improve institutional management by effectively leveraging the resources of ITS supporting groups. The organization consists of six groups: Enterprise Infrastructure Services; Enterprise Applications; Learning Support Services; IT Security (ITSO); Enterprise Service Delivery; Academic Strategies; and dotted line reporting to Research Computing.

About the Position:

The Director, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, implementation, and management of the university's ERP systems. This role involves leading cross-functional teams to ensure the effective integration and utilization of ERP applications across various departments, including Human Resources, Finance, Student Services, and Research. The Director plays a pivotal role in driving modernization and innovation within the university's ERP systems.

Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategy:

  • Provide operational and strategic leadership for ERP systems;
  • Develop and execute a multi-year roadmap for ERP system modernization;
  • Establish quality standards and procedures for ERP system management; and
  • Lead efforts to integrate ERP systems with other university processes and infrastructure.

Project Management:

  • Oversee new project development from initiation through execution and closure;
  • Manage multiple cross-functional teams related to ERP maintenance, development cycles, and new implementations; and
  • Ensure timely delivery of ERP services in response to business demands.

System Administration:

  • Oversee ongoing administration and support of the main ERP system;
  • Ensure compliance with ethical, legal, and regulatory standards; and
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for effective ERP system management.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as the primary liaison between IT and operational areas leveraging ERP applications;
  • Facilitate daily interactions with IT, business stakeholders, staff, and vendors; and
  • Translate organizational needs into system requirements, design specifications, and solution roadmaps.

Team Management:

  • Manage a team of product managers and analysts;
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and employee engagement;
  • Provide coaching and counseling to employees on work-related performance; and
  • Develop and implement training and monitoring initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Extensive experience (generally 10+ years) in higher education ERP system management and implementation;
  • Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects;
  • Deep understanding of ERP/business systems and interdependencies;
  • Strong strategic thinking and effective communication skills;
  • Ability to translate organizational needs into technical solutions; and
  • Proficiency in major ERP software/solutions (e.g., Workday, Oracle, Banner).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field;
  • Experience moving a system to the cloud;
  • Experience working in an Agile environment;
  • Extensive knowledge of Banner SIS or related systems; and
  • PMP or other project management certification.
