CFRE Education and Outreach Specialist

| LSSU’s Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE) is seeking a passionate and innovative Outreach and Education Specialist to lead our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program in Natural Resources, develop and assist with k-12 programming and community outreach activities, and provide support to CFRE students and staff. The Specialist will work with Brimley Schools, the EUP Intermediate School District, the CTE Advisory Committee, the LSSU Office of Charter Schools, LSSU faculty and students, and CFRE partners to ensure program quality, access, and sustainability related to Great Lakes education.
The Specialist’s role will be two-fold: 1) deliver on-site programming at CFRE to ~22 high school students during the k-12 school year calendar, and 2) assist with other programming at CFRE as needed, such as k-12 programs, social media, program assessment, community outreach and engagement. Specifically, the Specialist’s role will include, but not be limited to:
• developing programming that aligns with the state of Michigan’s requirements for CTE programs in natural resources
• delivering class lectures and hands-on experiences to the CTE students from 9-11 am daily (weekdays) during the k-12 academic calendar
• working with LSSU faculty and administration to align CTE curriculum with university course outcomes in the School of Natural Resources
• Arrange field work experiences and labs for CTE students and LSSU students
• serving on the CTE Advisory Committee
• assisting with grant writing to acquire funding to sustain innovative k-12 programming across the state and at CFRE
• assisting CFRE staff and community partners with organizing and conducting outreach events and k-12 activities during the academic year and summer
• contributing to the operations of the Great Lakes Discovery Center year-round
• designing and implementing evaluations of programming to assess learning outcomes |

| The Financial Aid Advisor supports Lake Superior State University’s mission by serving as a primary point of contact for students and families navigating the financial aid and scholarship process. Reporting directly to the Director of Financial Aid, this position is responsible for delivering high quality, student-centered advising related to FAFSA completion, financial aid eligibility, award interpretation, Satisfactory Academic Progress, and special circumstances.
This role plays a critical role in ensuring students understand their financial options and feel supported throughout their educational journey. The Advisor focuses on education, guidance, case management, and proactive outreach to promote access, persistence, and academic success. The position requires strong communication skills, empathy, and the ability to explain complex financial information in clear and actionable ways. |

Laker Success & First Generation Coordinator

| SUMMARY
Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Affairs, the Laker Success & First-Generation Coordinator will support student success initiatives that foster community, leadership, life skills, and academic achievement, with a particular focus on students who are underrepresented academically and/or economically. The Coordinator will advocate for students, collaborate with faculty and staff, and develop intentional programming that promotes personal growth, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging at Lake Superior State University. The Coordinator will also manage the Martin Luther King, Jr. - César Chávez - Rosa Parks (KCP) grant budget, hire, train, supervise, and lead a team of Laker Success Coaches, and partner with campus colleagues to develop engagement opportunities.
In its First-Generation Coordinator capacity, the position will develop and coordinate initiatives to improve the persistence, retention, and post-graduation success of first-generation students. This includes implementing targeted interventions, coordinating programming, and fostering partnerships across campus to build an inclusive and supportive environment for first-generation students and their families. |

University Planner and Financial Strategist

| 1. Campus Beautification & Aesthetics: Lead efforts to improve curb appeal, landscaping, signage, and campus presentation. Incorporate evidence-based design and environmental psychology principles to create environments that enhance comfort, functionality, and engagement.
2. Facilities Planning, Efficiency & Renovation Support: Assist in the coordination, planning, and oversight of facility upgrades, building renovations, and large-scale maintenance projects. Promote the efficient use of campus facilities through space utilization studies, scheduling optimization, and strategic planning. Work collaboratively with Physical Plant staff, contractors, and architects to ensure projects align with University priorities and student/community needs. Support project prioritization by evaluating impact, cost, and strategic alignment.
3. Strategic Financing & Contracts: Assist leadership in identifying financing strategies for facilities-related initiatives. Provide input on vendor negotiations and contracts related to dining, housing, and facilities management. Explore innovative partnerships to maximize resource use and funding opportunities.
4. Revenue Generation & Partnerships: Identify and recommend opportunities for facilities-based revenue generation (e.g., event hosting, community partnerships, auxiliary services). Cultivate collaborations with local, regional, and industry partners that enhance University visibility and impact. |
