Job Summary/Basic Function:

Assist in the operation of the Business Office. This position reports to the Controller/Director of Finance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform financial accounting, reporting, and record keeping in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
  • Prepare and post journal entries to record the financial activity of the University; allocate expenses and revenues; record changes in assets, liabilities and fund balances
  • Post transactions to various subsystems.
  • Reconcile systems/subsystem clearing accounts to ensure data integrity.
  • Periodically review account records and correct as needed.
  • Develop or maintain in-depth knowledge of accounting technology solutions.  Pursue solutions for incomplete or problematic transactions and/or corrupted files as may arise in the course of daily operations
  • Prepare schedules for the annual audit, and assist with periodic audit functions across campus.
  • Maintain and/or coordinate records retention for the University’s financial records, including both paper documents and electronically stored information or equivalents.
  • Provide assistance to students, other University personnel and third parties with questions and issues.
  • Perform other Business Office accounting functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Experience with electronic data processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to work well with others and communicate effectively.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications plus two or more years of accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of governmental fund accounting.
  • Experience with university finance/accounting systems.
  • Experience with BANNER

Physical and Mental Demands:

Adequate physical fitness to be able to sit and concentrate for long periods of time; use of fine motor skills to operate a computer and other related equipment; problem solving ability; ability to understand and work with numbers; ability to see, hear and speak with or without the use of aids to perform normal office tasks.
