- $44,500+ dependent upon experience, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)

- This position will work onsite the Grand Forks, ND campus.
Purpose of Position
The Digitization Specialist undertakes digitization projects for Chester Fritz Library and its patrons, producing high-quality digital versions of analog documents and materials. They will manage the day-to-day tasks necessary to accomplish these projects, including gathering the materials to digitize, planning and executing the digitization process, training and supervising student workers performing digitization tasks, tracking progress and performing quality control checks on the resulting files. They will work closely with other units in the UND Libraries and outside clients as required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate CFL’s digitization workflow.
- Coordinate digitization projects by identifying, planning, executing, and communicating results of work.
- Maintain strong communication channels with project stakeholders such as the Digital Initiatives Librarian, Head of Special Collections, and invested campus bodies.
- Recruit, train and manage student workers to advance digitization projects.
- Maintain high quality standards in digitized works.
- Build and maintain familiarity with best practices for digitization.
- Perform regular quality control checks on digitized materials.
- Maintain up to date process documentation.
- Ensure CFL’s compliance with applicable digital accessibility standards and regulations.
- Build and maintain deep knowledge of accessibility standards, including but not limited to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Develop and maintain proficiency in creating accessible documents in multiple formats (DOCX, PDF, etc).
- Develop and maintain proficiency in remediating existing digital documents in multiple formats (DOCX, PDF, etc).
- Work with other library units to develop a workflow for remediating document accessibility.
- Maintain up to date process documentation.
- Participate in professional activities, special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Serve on library and university committees as needed.
- Participate in meetings, conferences, and workshops as appropriate.
- Maintain awareness of new developments and participate in professional activities.
Required Competencies
- Detail-oriented.
- Knowledge of digital accessibility regulations such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Section 508 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Ability to adapt when problems arise in digital projects; capacity for creative problem-solving.

Minimum Requirements
- Associate’s Degree with three years of related work experience
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel
- Proficiency with managing digital files, including creating folders, moving files between folders, renaming files and tracking large numbers of files
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience with creating and editing PDF files.
- Experience reformatting materials from analog to digital format.
- Experience with creation of digital collections.
- Experience with project management such as task and timeline oversight, managing deadlines and deliverables
- Experience with digitization tools such as scanners, cameras and image editing software.
- Experience with remediating digital documents for accessibility.
