Youth Program Specialist (11-Month Position)

We seek a Youth Program Specialist to support JMU and the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services (IIHHS)’s mission and vision to provide outreach programs to the community and provide quality experiential learning opportunities to JMU students.
The Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program, part of SexEdVA at JMU, is a broadly targeted effort based on the principles of positive youth development and optimal health for the young people of the Shenandoah Valley. The project’s design includes the implementation of positive youth development programs, and the integration of innovative components to reduce risky behaviors among teens in Harrisonburg City and Page County, Virginia.
The programs used with the SRAE program are Wyman's Teen Outreach Program, the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles Project AIM program, and the Teen Speak motivational interviewing program. SexEdVA aims to ensure that young people across Virginia have access to sexual health information that is positive, inclusive, evidence-based, and medically accurate in order to make informed decisions regarding their health. SexEdVA seeks to advance health and education equity by addressing social determinants of health through comprehensive programming for youth and quality training for the adults who

The Center for Global Engagement (CGE) is seeking a Study Abroad Advisor to support students throughout all phases of the study abroad experience, including pre-application advising, pre-departure preparation, and post-program re-entry. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Study Abroad Advising and Student Support, this part-time role (20–30 hours/week, not to exceed 1500 hours/calendar year) works in close partnership with the study abroad programs team and advising staff to deliver comprehensive advising and support student engagement with program offerings. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and diverse international education environment. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Personal Well-Being, the Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing student well-being through outreach and direct student engagement. This position is responsible for facilitating well-being coaching as a holistic, inclusive, and evidence-informed early intervention strategy. Using empathetic communication, motivational interviewing, and principles of positive psychology, the Coordinator will engage one-on-one with students to strengthen their commitment to health promoting behaviors.
