The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure-track position in anthropological archaeology at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2026. We seek a scholar-teacher committed to public engagement, student participation in research, and student professionalization. The ideal candidate will complement, rather than duplicate, existing departmental strengths and make active use of campus lab spaces and facilities to provide hands-on learning opportunities. Preferred qualifications include experience in the archaeology and/or historical archaeology of the eastern United States and a demonstrated commitment towards engaging multiple stakeholders. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is a collegial body of 23 full-time faculty, 13 in Sociology and 10 in Anthropology. The Anthropology program is committed to four-field undergraduate teaching. GEAR UP Advisor (Part - Time) Harrisonburg

This is a unique opportunity to make a lasting difference in students’ lives while gaining meaningful experience in college access and success initiatives The position reports to the Director of GEAR UP. It supports the strategic vision and the mission of Enrollment Management and Outreach. GEAR UP serves a two-year cohort from the Staunton City Public School District, starting in middle school and following the cohort through their first year of post-secondary education. GEAR UP aims to increase the rate at which high-poverty participants complete secondary education. The grant will serve the district for a period of seven years. The GEAR UP advisor works directly with students, assisting them with academic class scheduling, implementing workshops, and providing support for college applications, career research, and financial aid. The advisor also works with the Director and the Parent Liaison in data reporting to the US Department of Education. The GEAR UP Advisor will also work with students who are truant or have dropped out of school and have not yet started post-secondary enrollment.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at James Madison University invites applications for a tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2026. Applicants with expertise in analytical, environmental, physical, nuclear, or inorganic chemistry are especially encouraged to apply. This position builds on our history of undergraduate teaching and research training that leverages over $10 million of existing instrumentation, including comprehensive nuclear chemistry facilities. JMU Chemistry is an undergraduate-only program at an R2 institution. The department currently serves approximately 200 majors and about 3000 undergraduate students each year. We offer a wide variety of courses for chemistry majors, other STEM majors, general education, and pre-health professionals. Majors are actively involved in SAACS, AXE, NOBCChE, and undergraduate research. Educational Talent Search Advisor Harrisonburg
The position reports to the Director of TRIO Programs and supports the strategic vision and implementation of the area to ensure alignment with Student Affairs and JMU's mission, vision, and values. Talent Search is a federally funded program providing opportunities for participants to succeed in their pre-college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Talent Search serves middle school and high school students from low-income families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. Talent Search aims to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from postsecondary education institutions. The Talent Search Advisor partners with campus and community colleagues to identify and assist first-generation income-eligible 6th through 12th grade students who attend local middle and high schools and want to continue with post-secondary education. The advisor will also work with students who have dropped out of school and have not started post-secondary enrollment. The advisor works directly with the students, assisting them with academic class scheduling, implementing workshops, and providing college application, career searches, and financial aid assistance. The advisor also works with the director in data reporting to the US Department of Education.

Youth Development Specialist - IE Harrisonburg
The position is responsible for supporting the development of diverse middle and high school students' interest and potential for working in healthcare fields and professions through planning, development, implementation, and monitoring program efforts across statewide project sites. An ability to model inclusive and nondiscriminatory practices in all activities is required. Through collaboration with the project team, health professionals, school officials, community members, and community professionals, the position assists youth in learning about healthcare positions and assists participants in completing the community health worker apprentice modules. Creating a positive youth health development program requires learning module content, providing group engagement, mentoring/modeling, working with families, evaluating programming, tracking outcomes, and completing reports. This project will provide extensive orientation to support the success of those selected for these position(s).
