Career Counselor Downtown Dallas
The UNT Dallas College of Law invites applications for the position of Career Counselor in the Office of Career and Professional Development. Candidates should possess enthusiastic support for the mission of the university to transform the lives of students, families and communities by providing high-quality, student focused education in preparation for tomorrows careers, and its vision to create the place of choice where students are inspired to learn, faculty are inspired to teach and the community is inspired to support. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Career and Professional Development, the Career Counselor is responsible for providing employment counseling and career education for law students and alumni. The Career Counselor teaches, advises, and counsels law students and alumni in their career development and all phases of the job search process. The Career Counselor will help law students and alumni shape and attain their short and long-term career goals and provide job placement assistance to law students and alumni. The Career Counselor contributes to program design and administration and develops career planning and placement publications, brochures, handbooks, and handouts. All facets of career and professional development extend to assist alumni. As a well-connected, knowledgeable expert on the legal job market, and career counseling principles, the Career Counselor accomplishes outcomes by providing individually tailored, client driven career counseling as well as by creating, planning, developing, and implementing cutting-edge programs, networking events, other activities (including social media), services, and resources that address a full array of traditional as well as nontraditional practice areas and settings. The Career Counselor will ensure our students have the best available access to networking and job opportunities as soon as they arrive on campus. Based on ongoing research, analysis, assessment and trendspotting, the Career Counselor designs and develops, and implements an array of workshops and programs, services, and resources (including online guides and webinars) to meet the career needs of our students. The Career Counselor will also collaborate with other College of Law departments and individuals to understand their needs and goals and explore and develop mutually beneficial programs, resources, and services. The Career Counselor will also maintain and and enhance the College of Law professional network of potential employers, other law school legal career professionals, and others in the legal field who may be in a position to provide information and assistance to our students.
