The Police Sergeant supervises and directs University police officers, security guards, and others engaged in the protection and safeguarding of human lives and personal and public property for the UNT Dallas Police Department. The position is responsible for supervisory functions at the UNT Dallas Main campus and the UNT Dallas Law Center. The duties of this position include the supervision and responsibility for on-the-job training and orientation of newly hired officers. The exercise of independent judgment is expected within the limits of the provisions of traffic, civil and criminal law, University rules and regulations, and Police Department policies. The Police Sergeant may be assigned supervisory
and/or administrative activities within a variety of police operations; including, patrol, criminal investigations, training, satellite locations, accreditation, administration, or other equivalent duties and responsibilities as determined by the Chief of Police consistent with department and university policies. This person will serve as the first point of contact for the Electrical Engineering Department and is responsible for various routine and nonroutine administrative support. This responsibility will include management of the front office reception area, receiving and routing all calls, all visitors, faculty and students, as well as vendors and shipments to the department. This employee will also coordinate and complete all faculty, student, and staff travel needs for the department and will be responsible for all of the departmental filing systems, both imaging and archiving. Other responsibilities of this position include assistance of yearly inventory, purchasing through requisition and pcard, and the coordinator for accrediting processes involving the acquisition of faculty information, course materials, writing of report, and coordination and planning for Evaluators visit. This position requires skills for independent judgment, decision making, and good problem solving. Strong marketing skills that include, monthly newsletters, and outreach. Responsibilities of the position include: *Lead efforts toward planning and implementing career development and job search programs and services working with students, faculty and staff in the College of Education (CoE). This includes but is not limited to individual advising, group workshops, presentations, and facilitating classes/courses. * Interface with students at all degree levels and alumni in assigned academic/programmatic areas. * Analyze student’s career paths, initiate career assessments, and provide advice. * Develop and conduct workshops, assess their effectiveness, and implement changes needed to engage students. * Develop ongoing
