Internship in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care AF8218 Stillwater
The objective of this small animal internship program is to provide extensive clinical training in preparation for a subsequent residency in emergency and critical care. This internship includes rotating assignments primarily in emergency and critical care medicine. In addition, elective rotations are available in medicine, surgery and anesthesiology. The intern will be under the supervision of two ECC specialists. Duties of the intern will include provision of primary and secondary care of patients in the intensive care unit; provision of emergency services outside of normal hospital hours including evenings, overnight, weekend and holiday shifts; involvement in daily case rounds, weekly house officer rounds, and weekly seminars; preparing and giving a hospital wide seminar twice during the internship; and instruction of third- and fourth-year veterinary students. Interns are encouraged to prepare a manuscript for publication in a clinical or scientific journal.

OVERVIEW: The mission of the Langston University American Institute for Goat Research (LUSAAS-AIGR) is to research, develop and transfer enhanced goat and hair sheep production and distribution system technologies, with impacts at local, state, regional, national, and international levels. AIGR strives to fulfill this mission through excellence in a results-driven, highly productive research program; an effective, client-oriented community-based extension approach; and dynamic international activities that stress business development and human capacity building. Cutting-edge research focuses on providing new information that are relevant and usable by producers, researchers, and consumers alike. Enhancing information exchange and producer skill levels through hands-on workshops, field days, and web-based information and interactive components is the goal of the extension program. Care for goat producers worldwide is engendered through international activities that encompass research, human capacity building, and village development. These programs, along with knowledgeable and caring personnel and a dedication to the improvement of the lives of goat and hair sheep producers around the world, have made the LU-AIGR a recognized leader in the arena of small ruminant production technologies. The recently enhanced focus on product development and consumption of meat and milk products has added a new dimension to the Institute. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES: The successful candidate will be an integral part of the research and extension programs. He/she will serve in the extension and research programs and conduct applied research with primary focus on unique aspects of goats and hair sheep production and management. The candidate will be expected to be in contact with leaders in the small ruminant industry and conduct workshops in various areas of animal production and management. He/she will collaborate with other scientists on research of interest. The candidate is expected to be familiar with parasites of 2 sheep and goats and participate in the American Consortium for Small Ruminant Parasites. Teaching assignments in area of specialization will be available periodically.

The preferred candidate must have the ability to demonstrate use of technology in the classroom to enhance lesson delivery and must be willing and able to use technology relevant to specifically assigned courses. Online teaching experience, willingness to teach online, and the ability to communicate well and employ teaching methods that engage students from traditionally underrepresented populations will be a plus.
