The Academic Advisor provides holistic, student-centered guidance to a caseload of students, supporting their academic planning, course selection, and progress toward graduation. This role assesses student needs, interprets university policies, and makes appropriate referrals while elevating complex issues to advising leadership as needed. The advisor proactively promotes student success through ongoing communication, directed outreach, monitoring academic performance, accurate documentation within university systems and participation in standard university-wide events, including Orientation and Enrollment (O&E) and Commencement. They guide students through essential processes—including forms, appeals, and procedural requirements—while ensuring timely, clear responses to inquiries. In collaboration with colleagues and academic departments, the advisor contributes to student success initiatives, offers feedback on curriculum and policy, and may serve as a mentor within the advising team. The position also includes teaching 1–2 sections of UNIV 1111 and participating in professional development and campus engagement activities that advance the overall student experience. Academic Advising at OSU expects that advisors will demonstrate knowledge and implement NACADA Core Values and Core Competencies in their practice.
