| The Academic Experiences department at RRCC is seeking a Peer Mentor to proactively support fellow students by fostering open and respectful dialogue, exemplify the spirit of belongingness, and maintain shared spaces dedicated to experiential learning and collective engagement. Peer Mentors will also help plan and implement events and activities that promote student engagement and success.
Working under the Director, Academic Experiences, Peer Mentors support the integration of “High-Impact Practices” (HIPs) across the RRCC curriculum and co-curriculum. HIPs are data-backed strategies identified by the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) that increase graduation rates and deep learning, particularly among underrepresented and first-generation students. Example HIPs include creation of Learning Communities, sharing Intellectual Experiences, exploring Global Diversity, pursuing Undergraduate Research, contributing to Collaborative Projects, and engaging in Community Service.
This position reports to Martin Doppelt, Director, Academic Experiences, but Peer Mentors may be assigned to work collaboratively under the direction of other RRCC staff. These will typically include members of either Academic Affairs and Workforce Innovation or Student Affairs, but may extend to other units as necessary.
Hours for this role are between Monday and Friday, 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM, at the Lakewood Campus location. Weekly schedules will be set in consultation with the supervisor and teammates, based on programmatic needs. This role requires attendance at weekly team meetings, as well as regular participation in events, activities, or other programs designed to enhance the RRCC community. This role may require hours outside of a normal work schedule.
This is a student employee position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session and up to 28 hours each week during academic breaks or breaks between terms while an RRCC student, depending on class schedule, need, and budget availability. Student employees are enrolled and contribute to a TIAA-CREF account when enrolled in less than six credits.
Students who qualify for work study employment are encouraged to apply. |
