Senior Analyst & Principal Analyst

To support our growth journey BHPB require a team of Operations Analysts and we have an immediate vacancy for a Senior Analyst and Principal Analyst. The Principal Analyst will lead operations analysis work across the whole mine lifecycle, supported by the group of Senior Analysts. 

The work of the Operations Analysis team is to determine business planning, commercial negotiations and acquisition activity as well as providing a source of deep economic understanding to the Executive Leadership. The team will deliver activity based operations models to forecast cash flows, carbon intensity, and front line labour requirements, supported by a deep understanding of operations.

This multidisciplinary team will use quantitative methods and rational analysis to inform business decision making. The objective is to maximise value creation through rigorous quantitative analysis.

In addition to an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development, all applicants must be highly numerate. Together the team will need exceptional skills, which will not be found in any one individual. In addition to core skills, applicants will contribute to team excellence through the following attributes:

  • Creativity and innovation
  • Conceptual thinking, logic and reasoning
  • Model building in a relevant platform e.g. Excel, Xeras
  • Relationship building, networking and information gathering
  • Data mining for information gathering e.g. fluency in SAP, exceptional skills in Excel data manipulation
  • Conceptualisation and "storytelling" to communicate key concepts
  • Written communications from detailed reports for peers through to highly distilled memos for Executive management
  • Visual communications (charts, PowerPoint slides)

Skills and Experience

The ideal applicants will be experienced resource industry professionals (e.g. mining engineer, geologist or commercial) with a demonstrated capacity for analysis. Relevant postgraduate finance or business qualifications (MME, MBA, CFA, CPA/CA) will be highly regarded. 

Grounding in the practicalities of site operations complemented by experience in analysis and planning roles is preferred.
