Software Engineer

Suncorp’s vision is to be the destination for the moments that matter.  In Claims Technology, we provide an agile and robust Claims Platform servicing 13 Suncorp Brands across Australia and New Zealand. Working with our Business partners, we help design solutions to complex business problems in both the Commercial and Personal Insurance market, covering Property, Motor and Workers Compensation lines. Our team leads the way in API design and development through which we’re supporting the creation of a Suncorp Marketplace to make it easy for customers to meet all their financial wellbeing needs and save them time by managing brands and solutions in one place.

About the role

As a Software Engineer you will work alongside a team of Analysts and other Software Engineers in a distributed Agile team delivering high quality solutions to business challenges. You will ensure delivery meets the standards set out for our Domain in both technical execution and the process and practices we follow. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects as well as support and maintenance of critical systems.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Analyse system requirements and develop technical design
  • Develop and maintain application software to defined quality assurance standards
  • Build quality into the software you develop, by providing high Unit and System Integration test coverage
  • Follow Test-Driven Development principles and the test pyramid concept to instrument testing as required
  • Support the application software by analysing and fixing problems as required
  • Identify opportunities for, participate in and support the rollout of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide technical advice to the business customers on business opportunities
  • Provide input to or develop business systems solutions, estimates and specifications
  • Assist with investigations into potential solutions, liaise with relevant technical experts and contribute to solution design and costing

Your background will ideally include:  

  • Minimum of 3 years of software engineering experience
  • Strong testing skills and Acceptance Test Driven Development or Behaviour Driven Development experience.
  • Strong analytical, design and consultative skills
  • Strong programming skills including secure software development practices like threat modelling
  • Experience with Java, Gosu, Source control systems, Continuous integration tools, Agile project management and collaboration tools.
  • Experience with modern API technologies and practices including RESTful API development
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound customer service and communication skills
  • Experience supporting high availability production systems is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience with Agile SDLC on projects.
  • Experience in Cloud Technologies is favourable.
  • Proven Diagnostic and Troubleshooting skills.
