Technical Lead

About the role

As a Tech Lead within the Claims Technology team, you will provide technical leadership to a talented team striving to deliver solutions that are strategically aligned to our architectural vision and that follows best practice. You will be responsible for solution design within your team and across the domain through collaboration with other Tech Leads and Architects.

Within your team, you’ll ensure that quality practices are being followed and you will mentor your engineers to follow coding standards and to build quality into their software. You will need strong systems experience, excellent interpersonal communication, and experience accepting and giving meaningful feedback on technical designs and pull requests. This position will be based in Brisbane.

Key Accountabilities of the role

• Drive technical solution design, estimation and delivery whilst ensuring alignment with the domain architectural strategies.
• Improve and embed automated testing practices in the team.
• Evangelise secure software development principles within your team through practices like secure code reviews and threat modelling.
• Mentor your engineers to improve their engineering capabilities and embed good practices.
• Identify opportunities to improve development processes and standards.
• Participate in proactive risk mitigation activities by identifying and addressing risks before they become issues and by carefully scrutinising changes before they reach the production environment.
• Work collaboratively with other Tech Leads to ensure synergy between teams by avoiding duplication and identifying opportunities for reuse.
• Work closely with the architecture team to contribute to and influence strategic planning and design whilst ensuring alignment of your solutions with the domain architecture strategy.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience

• Bachelor Degree in Information Technology / related disciplines or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years Software Engineering experience with at least 2 years of technical leadership responsibilities.
• Demonstrated experience with Agile development methodologies.
• Experience of working with geographically dispersed teams.
• Demonstrated ability to identify, capture & resolve complex issues.
• Experience of coaching and mentoring engineers.
• Experience with Java, Oracle RDBMS, Spring, Jira, Confluence, Source control systems and Continuous Delivery tools.
• Experience with ATDD or Behavioural Driven Development will be highly regarded.
