  • Support the review, refinement and enhancement Suncorp’s reinsurance strategy and assist with operational implementation for the Group Insurance business
  • Assist with the reinsurance process, which impacts the direct pricing of insurance to customers.

The Role

The Advisor supports the Senior Specialist Capital & Reinsurance to review, refine and enhance Suncorp’s reinsurance strategy and assist with operational implementation for the Group Insurance business


  • Work with Reinsurance Placements, Capital Modelling and Group Capital to evaluate profit and capital implications of various reinsurance strategies for individual business units and Suncorp Group.
  • Assist with the development of bespoke modelling tools for the evaluation of reinsurance treaties and tracking of treaty performance.
  • Support internal processes for business planning and budget setting with respect to reinsurance
  • Support the preparation of reports consisting of analysis and recommendations to internal forums including Asset & Liability Committee, Risk Committees and Board.
  • Support the production of reinsurance data, analytics, and commentary for internal reporting.
  • Adopt a continuous improvement approach to internal processes and systems, awareness and assessment of emerging tools / processes / modelling and market conditions for the reinsurance
  • industry.
  • Keep abreast of new catastrophe models and implications, providing peer review where required.
  • Work with IT teams to update new treaties within the insurance systems.
  • Maintain reinsurance counterparty monitoring processes.
  • Develop the skills to interpret financial modelling and complex analysis, support the review, design and implementation of reinsurance strategies to optimise the Group’s reinsurance program in line with the reinsurance objectives, risk appetite and Reinsurance Management Arrangements.

What do you need to bring to the role?

  • Relevant undergraduate qualifications (e.g. Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Applied Science)
  • At least 3 years’ experience in insurance / reinsurance in a finance / accounting / actuarial role
  • Sound technical / modelling skills (preferably with Microsoft Excel) required.
  • High degree of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office required. - Sound accounting / financial analysis balance sheet, profit and loss and capital modelling required.
  • Ability to analyse large data sets using Python, SQL, SAS, R (or other statistical analysis package) desirable.
  • Familiarity with stochastic models including platforms such as Igloo or ReMetrica desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly verbal and written presentation to individuals and groups.
  • Strong technical knowledge of general insurance, reinsurance, actuarial concepts and prudential capital requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of standard general insurance reinsurance arrangements including the impact of these arrangements on profit and capital volatility desirable.
  • Knowledge of (or at least familiarity with) relevant APRA Prudential Standards preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting standards including balance sheet, profit and loss, capital (both accounting and regulatory) desirable
