The Senior Risk Specialist - Engineering is an essential ingredient to Vero’s on-going success in the intermediated insurance market. The purpose of this exciting role is to assess the risk of, and develop loss control strategies for, machinery/equipment breakdown events for a diverse range of industries. Using your knowledge and expertise you will be supported to prepare high quality and timely technical reports for existing or new business opportunities for Vero’s Engineering Underwriting team. The reports provide an assessment of machinery/equipment breakdown risk exposures including potential loss scenarios to assist our underwriters and risk management/loss control advice to assist our policyholders.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Adopt a customer first approach in the promotion and delivery of our Risk Management proposition.
  • Preparation of underwriting risk assessment reports plus policyholder risk improvement recommendation reports designed to minimise machinery/equipment breakdown risks
  • Undertake site based and desktop technical risk assessments at the request of Underwriting
  • Provide guidance and advice to underwriters upon request regarding machinery/equipment breakdown related risk exposures and their mitigation
  • Represent Suncorp, and in particular Vero to brokers and customers
  • Deliver engineering related risk management service, guidance and advice to customers and demonstrate Vero’s point of differentiation
  • Initiate, facilitate and enhance stakeholder relationships at all levels internally.

Skills & Experience:


  • Degree in mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering, or an extensive background in mechanical, boiler, refrigeration, or electrical trades - Essential
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels of a business- Essential

Strongly Desired

  • Customer facing experience
  • Ability to efficiently write clear and concise technical reports
  • Experience with planned and preventative maintenance strategies
  • Understanding of condition monitoring techniques
  • Understanding of failure modes and effects analysis
  • Experience with reliability centred maintenance
  • Ability to conduct qualitative risk assessments and analysis of loss controls
  • Driver’s license and ability to travel interstate
