About the Role
Are you passionate about building scalable, high-quality digital experiences? Suncorp is seeking a Senior Design Systems Developer to join our Digital Customer team for a 12-month fixed term contract. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our Design System Libraries, collaborating with Leads, Business Stakeholders, and Technology teams to drive and progress our insurance brand customer applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead communication of scalable UI development recommendations across product delivery teams, acting as a central contact for wider stakeholder groups.
- Drive Design System development and define architecture for multi-brand libraries and supporting documentation.
- Actively contribute to prioritisation of design tasks and team rituals.
- Coach, mentor, and guide junior developers on code and Design System best practices.
- Assist in evolving team ways of working, design approach, and methodologies.
- Report on BAU/project/initiative/task status and advise on resource needs as required.
- Present and showcase project activities to stakeholders.
- Build best practice UI Components within a large established Design System.
- Create React UI prototypes and complex interface layouts to assist CMS component development.
- Collaborate with UX, Development teams, and Business Stakeholders.
- Problem-solve and innovate around front-end systems, automation, and efficiency.
Key Relationships
- Work closely with Product Owners, Designers, Content Producers, SEO, and Developers to deliver compelling digital experiences.
- Foster a collaborative, approachable, and feedback-driven environment.
About You
- Tertiary qualification in software engineering, computer science, or equivalent.
- 5+ years’ experience as a Front-end Developer.
- Strong experience with Design Systems.
- Web development portfolio or ability to demonstrate work on high complexity projects.
Mandatory Skills:
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript, CSS (including frameworks like LESS/SASS), and semantic HTML.
- Responsive/mobile-first web design and web applications.
- Component Design, Design Systems, and Styleguides.
- UI interaction patterns, form design, usability, web performance, and accessibility.
Desired Skills:
- Front-end React & associated frameworks.
- CSS scaling methodologies (OOCSS, SMACSS, BEM, etc.).
- Front-end build systems and tooling (pre-processors, task runners, package managers).
- Version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Understanding of Token Library databases and CMS Technology (especially Adobe CMS).
- Knowledge of other web interface frameworks (Angular, Vue, Handlebars, etc.).
