The Role
The Chief Pharmacist is the principal advisor in relation to the application of the Poisons Act 1971 as it relates to regulating the manufacture, distribution and use of drugs of dependence, medicines, poisons and therapeutic goods in Tasmania.
The position will be responsible for driving Statewide change across all relevant Departmental, Tasmanian Health Service (THS), General Practice and drug manufacturing settings.
The Chief Pharmacist directs and manages the functions of the Pharmaceutical Services Branch (PSB). This includes:
- Coordinate the development and implementation of policies and legislation regulating the manufacture, distribution and use of drugs of dependence, medicines, poisons and therapeutic goods in Tasmania.
- Provide authoritative policy advice on pharmacy and pharmaceutical practice issues to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage PSB’s operational functions, including human, physical and financial resources, to effectively achieve organisational objectives.
- Develop and implement national pharmaceutical reform initiatives as they relate to regulating the manufacture, distribution and use of drugs of dependence, medicines, poisons and therapeutic goods.
- Implement and maintain best practice in all aspects of PSB. This includes: e-business approaches, process review and redesign to ensure productivity while maintaining appropriate professional standards.

Details of Appointment
Fixed term full time day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible for a 6-month period.

Classification:
Salary $175,776 - $182,588 per annum (pro rata) + 11.5% superannuation
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022

Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Pharmacy Board of Australia or completion of an overseas qualification eligible for skills assessment through the Australian Pharmacy Council.

Registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- At least five years practical experience as a pharmaceutical chemist subsequent to initial registration
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications
- Current Driver’s Licence
Under particular circumstances employees may be required to undertake a new conviction check.
