About the Role

This full time role is based from our Olinda Reservoir work centre in Lilydale. Reporting to the Program Lead, this is a pivotal role within the Field Delivery North West team. As the Crew Lead Civil, you will be responsible for the in-field oversight to multiple work groups for delivery of pipe repair work/civil maintenance on Melbourne Water’s Waterways Water Supply pipe network and Land assets. The team operates within a 24/7 service environment, providing emergency response services to ensure minimal disruption to customers and to protect the environment and public health. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the successful, safe, and timely delivery of emergency works, and maintenance of water supply infrastructure
  • Taking care of own and colleagues Health and Safety through identification and reporting of hazards and active involvement in improvement initiatives.
  • To coordinate work in a team environment.
  • To work with and provide in field oversight for multiple crews undertaking various on-ground activities.
  • Assist in the provision of on the job training for crews.
  • Competent in completing all relevant documentation in relation to work sites and equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring the quality of own work and that of the team.

About you:

  • Demonstrated experience and capabilities coordinating, leading, and working with crews in a civil pipe repairs and construction/maintenance environment.  
  • Certificate/Diploma in relevant disciplines or relevant work experience in high risk construction work.
  • Other qualifications such as Industry White Card, Chainsaw Ticket, Confined Space Entry, Fall Prevention/ Working at Heights, Plant Machinery competency, Trenching and Shoring accreditation. etc. as required
  • Ability to take responsibility for own role in ensuring the safety of all team members and other personnel on site
  • Excellent Problem solving skills, including the ability to deliver the appropriate outcomes
  • Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to lead and communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people both within Melbourne Water, external organisations and with the general public.
  • Ability to lead, work and contribute in a team environment to improve processes, respond to various demands and manage multiple activities simultaneously
  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations
  • Experienced in the use and maintenance of power tools, pumps, demo saws, chainsaw, etc
  • Hold a valid Victorian Driver’s License
  • Have the ability to pass a criminal record check, pre-employment medical and an AusCheck

The Security of Critical Infrastructure (SoCI) Act 2018 requires Melbourne Water, as an operator of critical infrastructure, to prepare a Critical Infrastructure Risk Management Program (CIRMP), which has been undertaken and managed by the Security and Emergency Management Team.

Melbourne Water are required to assess roles across Melbourne Water to determine what roles are critical under the Act. All employees working in a role deemed SOCI critical will require additional background checks via AusCheck.  This role is deemed critical, and the preferred applicant will be asked to undertake an AusCheck.
