Thiess has a long journey of more than 30 years in Indonesia providing mining services for various projects and clients with head office in Jakarta and support facilities in Balikpapan including workshops and training center.

About the role

We are looking for skilled Technical Advisor (Indonesian/Expatriate) –  to join one of our open cut coal operations in Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Assist the Project Manager in overseeing including identifying all sources of equipment maintenance, fueling, repair and spare parts.
  • Coordinate plant activities through the planning with departmental managers to ensure that the Maintenance Department goals are accomplished in a timely and cost effectively manner (MA>90 %, MTBS>60 hours Zero LTI), by following the procedures which are set up in TGS (Thiess Governance System)
  • Ensure that all equipment is completely inspected at least once a year based on the manufacturer’s recommendations and company standard.
  • Establishes service schedules on equipment for warranty compliance.
  • Ensures the ready status of idle equipment. Develops and maintains files on all equipment for historical data.
  • Ensure maximum communication levels are maintained between workshop and operations personnel regarding breakdowns, safety issues, and prioritizing of the equipment repairs.
  • Ensure all Supervisors to complete accurately the daily breakdown report, Supervisor Shift report, and mechanical inspection complete with the part required to address all known work, breakdown and planned Maintenance are submitted to Planning and Admin every day.
  • Ensure all Supervisors to complete the accurate breakdown hours and repair information.
  • Analysis of component condition and recommendation of parts required. Ensure that the correct procedures are used when breakdowns and failure troubleshooting.
  • Planning and Coordination of shutdown work in cooperation with Planning Department. Ensure all repairs are carried out in and effective cost and timely manner.
  • Investigation and reporting of all incidents damaged to all equipment in the field and associated area, this is included for the operator abuse.
  • Ensure that there is no impact to the environment from the activities that are carried out to operate and repair equipment by ensuring the procedures in the TGS and Plant Management Plan are in place.

About the role

  • Relevant trade or tertiary qualification with minimum 15 years’ experience in mining equipment maintenance and Minimum 10 years leadership experience in the mining industry.
  • People handling skill diagnostic skills in all aspects of mechanical repairs;
  • Mechanic experience on Thiess equipment, especially for Big Digger e.g.  Cat, Komatsu, Liebherr;
  • Knowledge of welding procedures;
  • IT Literacy
  • OHS&E requirements Legislative and statutory requirement;
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills; Strong Mentoring skills; Good analytical skills; Strong communication and negotiation skills;
  • A commitment to safety and a desire to maintain our Indonesian coal operations to world class international safety standards. You should also be able to clearly demonstrate previous results together with a pro-active commitment towards safety whilst having attained the teamwork and respect of local communities and adherence to relevant environmental standards;
  • A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement;
  • Cross Cultural Management sensitivity and an understanding of community issues relevant to large mining projects within developing countries;
  • Ability to work on a fly-in-out overseas mine site;
