Thiess has a long journey of more than 30 years in Indonesia providing mining services for various projects and clients with head office in Jakarta and support facilities in Balikpapan including workshops and training center.

About the role

We are looking for skilled Fixed Plant Technical Advisor (Indonesian/Expatriate) –  to join our open cut coal operations in Senakin, South Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Demonstrate and instill an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
  • Demonstrate effective management of safety incidents by ensuring that incidents and hazards are identified, reported, investigated and managed
  • Lead, coach and mentor employees to deliver on plan and build a high performing team
  • Cultivate positive relationships through effective communication and consultation
  • Provide constructive feedback to direct reports/peers on a regular basis
  • Contribute to the development and input into the Department’s succession plans
  • Lead the Fixed Plant Maintenance Department to develop business plans consistent with site strategies/ plans and implement within the Fixed Plant Maintenance area
  • Support best practice through developing and embedding of functional systems, monitoring key performance measures and sustaining continuous improvement processes
  • Lead the team in identifying and implementing initiatives that contribute to current and potential value to the business from a Fixed Plant Maintenance perspective, ensuring compliance to the Change Management Procedure
  • Development and implementation of the strategy-based maintenance program and ensure its ongoing acceptance by key maintenance staff and workgroups
  • Set the standard of quality for Maintenance activities, monitor the performance of these activities and take corrective action when necessary
  • Lead and champion the principles of reliability engineering in maintenance processes to ensure equipment operates as designed
  • Develop budgets and forecasts for Fixed Plant Maintenance area
  • Regularly monitor area expenditure/trends and put remedial controls in place to meet budget requirements within Fixed Plant Maintenance

About you

What skills and experience do you need?

  • Engineering qualification at Trade, Diploma or Degree level or equivalent industry and/or organisational experience
  • Knowledge of fixed plant assets, with experience in green and brownfield operations
  • Diploma in Frontline Management and qualifications in Six Sigma are desirable
  • A proven track record of safety management
  • Strong communication, negotiation, influencing and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated track record of continuous improvement
  • Mineral Processing Plant knowledge is desirable
  • Experience in a large-scale material handling or ore processing operation preferred
  • Experience in Reliability Centred Maintenance program implementation will be beneficial
  • Experience managing teams and an ability to provide leadership and development of supervisory staff
