About the role

People & Capabilities Advisor (HR)

Thiess Mining USA is seeking a dynamic and progressive People and Capability Advisor to join our team as the second local hire in the US. With global functional support this role will help support the day to day for both our projects organization and our regional office of approximately 100 individuals. The role will sit in beautiful Salt Lake City, UT and allow opportunities for some travel and exposure both domestically and internationally.  

This HR role is critical to achieving the objectives of the business as we build a regional presence and will have a large scope through all areas of HR.  As a true generalist it will have opportunities to support the entire employee experience. You’ll have the stability of an established, enduring company, and the entrepreneurial spirit of an emerging business having only recently expanded into the US market.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide Human Resources expertise to Thiess for start up and day-to-day HR related matters.
  • Delivery of specific HR elements of the business unit strategic plan.
  • Keep abreast of the nominated BU's commercial progress to support and assist in providing HR input to new work strategy.
  • Provide advice and assistance to the project managers and human resource teams for Performance Appraisals, disciplinary procedures, disputes, dismissals and other related Human Resources and Industrial Relations topics
  • Deliver a thoughtful execution of human resources responsibilities, following principles, industry practices, employment law and regulatory requirements related to human resources.
  • Escalate complex HR issues in a timely manner.
  • Build and sustain business relationships with key stakeholders both in Corporate office and site employees globally.
  • Implement, promote and support site(s) in the use of current HR systems, policies, and processes.
  • Assist in maintaining the content of all Human Resources Policies and various instruction / application
  • Support the HR Manager and Project stakeholders in the engagement and mobilization of expatriate employees to projects.
  • Support and communicate visa applications and progress for expatriate employees mobilizing to site (cross regional)
  • Deliver HR transactional activities as required.
  • Conduct global HR Project work as directed.
  • Support the North America region with end-to-end recruitment.

About you

Ideally are looking for an experienced professional with a strong human resources generalist background who:

  • Degrees or certifications in Human Resources Management, Business or a similar discipline. Four-year Bachelor's degree. Experience in lieu of a degree will be considered. 
  • Requires four or more years of relevant HR experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of human resources principles, industry practices, employment law and regulatory requirements related to human resources.
  • Ability to establish goals and objectives and manage projects to completion. 
  • Ability to respond to significant inquiries, problems, or complaints from team members, team leaders and conduct thorough investigations.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively to resolve complex employee relations issues. Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Has worked HR role in a fast-paced environment, having supported both hourly and salaried professionals.
  • Has proven experience in driving positive employee relations.
  • Uses and encourages creative and innovative thinking and problem solving.
  • Has supported recruitment campaigns and built strategic talent pipelines and community relationships.
  • Has managed and implemented projects and has a continuous improvement mindset
  • Is flexible and resilient. Is a strong coach and facilitator. Knows how to have fun.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
  • Experience and exposure to multiple HRIS Systems
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills. Strong influencing skill set. 
  • Ability to deal with conflict and demonstrate resilience.
  • Flexibility to cope with change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite.
